DESCENDANTS OF WALTER WILLIAM GRAVES AND SARAH ------ OF JACKSON CO. & ROSS CO., OH

GENERATION 1

Walter William Graves (1) was born about 1876 in OH. He lived in Chillicothe, Ross Co., OH. He married Sarah (“Sadie”) ‑‑‑‑‑‑ about 1896. She was born about 1872 in OH.

It is reputed that the original Graves was actually an Emerson, but was an escaped or wanted criminal who had moved from Canada to Ray, Vinton Co., OH. Upon his arrival, he changed his name to Graves, presumably because Graves was the most common surname in Ray, OH. He is definitely not the Walter Graves who was born about 1876, married Lucy A. (“Daisy”) Darby, and lived in Vinton Co., OH, descended from genealogy 85. They were in the 1900 census for Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., OH, when he was a farm laborer. They were in the 1910 census for Scioto Twp., Ross Co., OH, when his name was listed as William W. Graves. They were in the 1920 census for Union Twp., Ross Co., OH, with his name listed as Walter W. He was a farmer. All their children were born in OH. (R‑1)

CHILDREN OF WALTER GRAVES (1) AND SARAH ------

Russell Graves (5) was born about 1910 in OH. He lived in Chillicothe, Ross Co., OH. He married Viola Stevens about 1929. She was born about 1913 in West Middletown, Washington Co., PA, almost on the border with Ohio. They were in the 1930 census for Chillicothe, Scioto Twp., Ross Co., OH, when he was a laborer in a paper mill. (R‑1)
