DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM GREAVES AND ELIZABETH ------ OF ENGLAND, KY & TX

GENERATION 1

William Greaves (1) was born about 1833 or 1834 in England, and died after 1880. He married Elizabeth (“Bettie”) ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born in Aug. 1836 in KY. They were in the 1870 census for Owensboro, Ward 1, Daviess Co., KY, page 268, and in the 1880 census for Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX, ED 88, page 9B. He was a confectioner. Their first 2 children were born in KY, and the third in FL.

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF WILLIAM GREAVES (1) AND ELIZABETH ------

William T. ("Will" or “Willie”) Greaves (2) was born in Feb. 1868 in KY, and died 5 March 1912 in McLennan Co., TX (death certificate 8105). He married Lydia Harrison. She was born about 1876 in LA, and died 5 Aug. 1923 in Dallas Co., TX.

Her obituary was in the Dallas Daily Times Herald, Monday, Aug. 16, 1923, p. 8, col. 3. "Mrs. Lydia Greaves, a resident of Dallas for fourteen years, died Sunday night in her home, 913 Bellevue Avenue. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Lou Fletcher, and two sons, W.F. and S.P. Greaves, all of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Clark of Dallas and Mrs. J.B. Palmer of Graham, Texas, and three brothers, Henry, Charles, and Alfred Harrison, all of Dallas. Following short funeral services Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at the residence, the body will be sent by the Weiland Undertaking Company to Waco for burial."

The 1900 census for 717 South 9^th St., Waco, Ward 3, McLennan Co., TX, ED 74, page 12A, listed William and Lydia, their 2 sons, his mother Elizabeth, and his brother John. The 1910 census for Dallas, Dallas Co., TX, page 170A, listed William and Lydia, their 2 sons, and his mother Bettie. Will and his brother were listed as salesmen in 1900, and he was a cigar salesman in 1910. (R‑1)

GENERATION 3

CHILDREN OF WILL GREAVES (1) AND LYDIA ------

Shelton Paul Greaves (5) was born 14 Aug. 1893 in TX, and died 28 Jan. 1946 in Dallas Co., TX (death certificate 1470). He first married Madeline Sophroney Knight, daughter of Doc (or Dock) Knight and Nicey Tucker, on 8 Aug. 1911 in Dallas, Dallas Co., TX. She was born 6 Jan. 1899 in Dallas, TX, and died 8 Aug. 1989 in Bronson, TX. He married second Trionia ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1898 in TX.

He married third Grace Overton. She was born 14 Oct. 1903 in TX, and died 8 May 1969 in South Gate, Los Angeles, CA. She was daughter of Clarence Dytchlar Overton (b. 18 March 1878 in TX) and Ida Elizabeth McIntyre.

On Shelton's draft registration his name is listed as Shelton Pamprea Greaves. It seems very likely that he changed his middle name to Paul after researching the name Pamprea and finding that the closest to that is the French spelling for Paul. (R‑1, R‑2)
