GRAVES
FAMILY NEWSLETTER
The
April issue of the Graves Family Newsletter was mailed today. I expect the June issue to be mailed in
July, and maybe by the September issue it will be up-to-date. The newsletter is published 6 times per year
and contains information on all the various Graves and Greaves families,
queries, and other items of interest.
The
February issue contained the connection of the infamous James brothers (Jesse
and Frank) with the Graves family, a Greaves family of North Yorkshire,
England, Ludwig Greve of Germany, the family of Conrad Graves and Mary Fraser
of PA & NC, Graves/Starnes ancestry and relationships, etc.
The
April issue includes the descendants of John Grave and Rachel Borrow of
Middlesex, England, descendants of Thomas Henry Graves and Adelaide Hall of
Barbados, West Indies, descendants of John Graves, eldest son of Rear Adm.
Thomas Graves, etc.
Sometime
in the future the newsletter will probably be converted to an online,
electronic publication. However, that
will take planning and development, and there are also people who do not have
Internet access, so it will not be done in the immediate future.

GRAVES
FAMILY BOOKS
The
announcement of the publication of the JOHN GRAVES of Concord, MA book earlier
this year was a little premature. I
announced that it would be ready to be mailed in May 2001. However, the software that I thought I could
use to finalize the book and send it to the printer electronically turned out
to have shortcomings. After spending
much time on the wrong approach, I had to regroup and redo some of what had
already been done. The result is that
the book will now be ready to be mailed about the end of October 2001. I apologize for the delay and any concern
you may have had.
As
announced before, the book will be hardcover, 2 volumes, more than 1600 pages,
fully indexed, and will contain more than 200 pictures of many family
members. The price will be $65 for
orders received by September 15, 2001, and $75 after that. (Anyone who has already sent $75 based on
the previous deadline will receive a rebate.)
Checks for this and all other books should be made payable to Kenneth V.
Graves.
A
list of all books that have been published and a discussion of what will be
published in the future is on the GFA website.
However, since I am often asked about the books, here are the ones that
are available now. More about them is
on the website.
ROBERT GRAVES of Anson Co., NC and Chesterfield Co., SC (descended from Capt.
Thomas Graves of VA)
Published in 1980, 408 pages, $26.00.
SAMUEL GRAVES of Lynn, MA
Published in 1985, 446 pages, $36.00.
THOMAS GRAVES of Hartford, CT and Hatfield, MA
Published in 1985, 710 pages, $46.00.
GRAVES FAMILIES OF THE WORLD
Published in 1994, 509 pages, $41.00.
REAR ADMIRAL THOMAS GRAVES of Charlestown, MA
Published in 1994, 267 pages, $23.00.
DEACON GEORGE GRAVES of Hartford, CT
Published March 1995, 446 pages, $35.00.
Books
will be published in the future on ALL the various Graves. Greaves, Grave,
etc., families. After the publication
of the John Graves of Concord, MA book, the planned order of publication is:
**Graves
Families of Randolph Co., NC (in 2002)
**John
Graves of Frederick Co., VA
**Capt.
Thomas Graves of VA
**Others,
including Johann Sebastian Graff (John Graves) and other German Graves
families, Graves families of England and elsewhere, Thomas Graves of New Castle
Co., DE, etc.

GRAVES
FAMILY ASSOCIATION WEB SITE
(http://www.gravesfa.org)
The
section of Graves/Greaves ancestors and genealogies is constantly being added
to. The plan is to have genealogies or
some information about every ancestor on the list. New and revised genealogies are constantly being added. If an ancestor of interest to you is listed
but the genealogy itself has not yet been added, let me know and I can add it.
Take
a look at the site, and let us have your comments and suggestions.

DNA
ANALYSIS PROJECT
In
the last GF Bulletin early this year, I said that the DNA Analysis project
would be discussed in the next Bulletin.
Details will be provided soon in a Bulletin, in the Newsletter, in a
letter to be mailed to many family members, and in a separate page on the GFA
website.
The
potential of this project is huge! It
will be an opportunity for us to begin to determine how many separate lines of
the family there really are and how some of the miscellaneous parts of the
family are connected to others. Stay
tuned for the details.

MISCELLANEOUS
STUFF
There
will be a future trip to England and Ireland.
Once I get some of the pressing projects under control (like the books
and the DNA project), I will do some
planning for this. If you want to help
or have some ideas, let me know.
We
plan to have a reunion in 2007 or 2008 in Jamestown or Williamsburg, VA to
celebrate the 400th anniversary of the 1608 arrival in the colony of
Capt. Thomas Graves. We need to start
planning this considerably in advance.
Since there will be a celebration planned for 2007 for the 400th
anniversary of the first landing in Jamestown, should we plan to have our
gathering then instead of in 2008?
Would you like to help plan?

E-MAIL
ADDRESS AND POSTAL MAILING ADDRESS FOR KEN GRAVES
I
used to have a couple of other e-mail addresses, including one on AOL. I now have only one address,
ken.graves@gravesfa.org. Also, we moved
to another house in the same town more than 2 years ago. However, I occasionally find that people
have tried to contact me at my old address.
Please be sure to use the correct addresses. If you forget, you can always look on the GFA website. Thanks.
