GENERATION 1
Joseph Graves (1) was born in 1795 in Pennsylvania, and was still living in 1883 when he was listed on the pension roll. He was a farmer. He was a veteran of the War of 1812, serving in the Infantry, 3rd Regt., Maryland Militia. He married Elizabeth Johnson (or Johnston) in Bedford Co., Pa. She was born in 1803 in Maryland. They lived in Bedford Co., Pa., Knox Co., Ohio, and Keokuk Co., Iowa. Their first 4 children were born in Pa., and the next 4 in Ohio. (R-1)

GENERATION 2
CHILDREN OF JOSEPH GRAVES (1) AND ELIZABETH JOHNSON
Johnson Graves (7) was born 16 July 1839 in Mt. Vernon, Knox Co., Ohio, died 31 July 1938 in Iowa Soldiers Home, Marshalltown, Iowa, and was buried 3 Aug. 1938 in Mt. Zion Cem., Martinsburg, Keokuk Co., Iowa. He served as a private in the Union Army in the Civil War, Company F, 33 Regt., Iowa Infantry. He was a cabinet maker.
He was married to Mary Frances Stewart, daughter of William and Elizabeth Stewart, on 16 Sept. 1874 in Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa, by Rev. Willis G. Craig. She was born 9 April 1855 (or 1854) in Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio, died 21 May 1937 in Martinsburg, Iowa, and was buried in Mt. Zion Cem., Martinsburg.
William Stewart was born in 1820 in Pa., and Elizabeth Stewart was born in 1830 in Md. They had four children: Soltie, b. 1852, Ohio; Mary Frances; Belle, b. 1856, Ohio; and Charles, b. 1861, Iowa.
Johnson and Mary Frances were Presbyterian. They lived in Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa, and Martinsburg, Keokuk Co., Iowa. Their first two children were born in Keokuk, and the others in Martinsburg. (R-1)

Florence Belle Graves (10) was born 19 Oct. 1875 in Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa, died 26 Nov. 1963 in Hedrick, Keokuk Co., Iowa, and was buried in Mt. Zion Cem., Martinsburg, Keokuk Co., Iowa. She first married Irvin Byard Taylor. She secondly married a widower, Adna M. Utterbach. He was born 9 April 1860 and died 1 Oct. 1951. (R-1)

21. Harry Albert Taylor, b. 9 Jan. 1904, m. Mae ------, d. 30 Nov. 1971 (Florida). Bur. Mt. Zion Cem., Martinsburg, Ia. No children. She died in Florida before him, and was buried there.

William Stewart Graves (11) was born 26 Jan. 1878 in Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa, and died 17 Aug. 1952 in Dallas, Texas. He was in the dry cleaning business, and owned Graves Dye Works. He was married to Mabel Holland, daughter of Daniel Christopher Holland and Mary Clinton Trantham, on 7 July 1904 in Dallas, Texas, by Rev. Warner B. Riggs. She was born 11 May 1884 in Senatobia, Tate Co., Miss., and died 10 Sept. 1966 in Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas. They were both buried in Grove Hill Cem., Dallas, Texas. She belonged to the Episcopal Church. All their children were born in Dallas, Texas. (R-1)

25. Daniel ("Danny") Johnston Graves, b. 24 Sept. 1919, d. 15 April 1927 (Dallas, Texas, of diphtheria).
Maude Frances Graves (16) was born 30 Sept. 1886 and died 20 Oct. 1918, both in Martinsburg, Keokuk Co., Iowa. She married Connally Faulkner Cuddy, son of Lilburn B. Cuddy (Confederate veteran of the Civil War) and Martha V. Ballard, on 11 May 1906 in Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa. He was born 30 Oct. 1879 in Abingdon, Va., and died 22 Oct. 1918 in Martinsburg, Iowa. They both died from the flu epidemic, and were buried in Mt. Zion Cem., Martinsburg. All their children were born in Martinsburg, Iowa. (R-1)
