DESCENDANTS OF PETER GRAVES OF CANADA AND MINNESOTA

GENERATION 1

Peter Graves (1) was born in May 1870 in Canada, according to the 1900 census. He first married Mary ‑‑‑‑‑‑ about 1892. She was born in April 1875 in WI. He married second Mary ‑‑‑‑‑‑ about 1902. She was born about 1875 in MN. He married third Susan ‑‑‑‑‑‑ about 1916. She was born about 1893 in MN. He was in the 1900 census for Red Lake Indian Reservation, Beltrami Co., MN, with his first wife. He was in the 1910 census for Leech Lake Indian Reservation, Carr Co., MN, with his second wife. He was in the 1920 and 1930 censuses for Red Lake Indian Reservation, Beltrami Co., MN, with his third wife. All the censuses stated that everyone in the family was Indian (Native American), and the 1930 census stated that they were all mixed blood Chippewa. He was a U.S. interpreter in 1900, a clerk for Indian Service in 1910, a bookkeeper in 1920, and a Fisherman in 1930. He has not been found in earlier censuses in either the U.S. or Canada. All his children were born in MN.

John Graves (2) was born in Aug. 1893 in MN. He married Nancy ‑‑‑‑‑‑ about 1915. She was born about 1897 in MN. They were in the 1920 census for Red Lake Indian Reservation, Beltrami Co., MN, living with his father’s family. They were in the 1930 census for Red Lake Indian Reservation living next to his father. He was a laborer in 1920 and a fisherman in 1930. All their children were born in MN.

They were in the 1930 census for Red Lake Indian Reservation, Beltrami Co., MN, when both Joseph and Jane worked for the U.S. Indian Service, she as a cook. All their children were born in MN.
