Revised 17 Dec. 2004, Gen. 63
DESCENDANTS OF ARCHIBALD
GRAVES OF NC & PIKE CO., AL
GENERATION 1
Archibald Graves (1) was born about
1785 in NC, and moved to Pike Co., AL around 1830.
There was an Archibald Graves
living in Marion Co., SC in 1810, with Hardy Graves and others; this may be the
same Archibald. (See genealogy of Hardy
Graves of SC & Pike Co., AL.) There
was also an Archibald Graves in Marion Co., SC in 1850, but that is a different
person.
Members of the family of Joseph
Blythe Greaves also lived in Marion Co., SC in 1810; could there be a
connection?
It is possible that Archibald was a
brother of Hardy Graves, Benjamin Graves, and possibly a James Graves, and that
all were sons of a John Graves. It is
also possible that this John Graves was a brother of Thomas Graves who married
Miss Liles and perhaps also of another Hardy Graves born about 1750. John and Thomas Graves both lived in SC and
in Carter Co., TN. Some of this
speculation is shown on the chart on the next page.
It is thought that Archibald Graves
was married twice. The name of his
first wife is not known. His second
wife was Harriett Edna Eddins. She was
born about 1820, according to the 1850 Pike Co., AL census. The estate of her father, Joseph Eddins,
confirms that she first married Archibald Graves, and secondly married Luke
Flowers.
Archibald died in 1856 in Pike Co.,
and his will is on file in Will Book A of the Pike Co. records. It is thought that he lived south of Spring
Hill community. The following children were mentioned in his will. (R‑1, R‑2)
