DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE GRAVES AND ESTHER TATE OF CASWELL CO., NC

GENERATION 1

George Graves (1) was born about 1849 in NC, and died after 1900.  He married Esther[1] Tate (or Tait) on 6 May 1876 in Stony Creek Twp., Caswell Co., NC[2].  On their marriage record, his parents were listed as Nelson Anderson and Celia Anderson.  Celia, recorded as ÔSelieÓ, lived with George and Esther in 1880.  EstherÕs parents were shown as Jerry Walker and Adline [sic] Tait.  Esther was born about 1853 in NC, and died after 20 May 1914[3].  This family was recorded on the 1880 census in Anderson, Caswell Co., NC; their children were born in NC.  In 1880, George was age 32 and Estor was 27.  Daughter Jane was not included in the 1880 census, son ÔJeriÕ was recorded as age 3, Susan Anderson, age 2, was listed under SelieÕs name with no relationship provided, and Jinnie Tate, age 10, recorded as a daughter, was last in the census entry.  This family was also recorded on the 1900 census in Anderson, Caswell Co., NC.  There were no ages or dates for this entire family.  Also recorded with them were Susan and three of her children.  Esther was recorded as Caroline.  On the 1870 census in Stony Creek, Caswell Co., NC, a Caroline Tate, age 20, black servant, lived in the household of Samuel and Julietta Tate.  Also recorded with Caroline were Mary, age 2, and Martha, age 1.  Since the first four children listed below were born before George and EstherÕs marriage date, their parentage is not clear.  Perhaps Jinnie Tate is Jane Graves, but there is no evidence to prove this.  (R‑1)
