David Graves (22) was born about 1782 (or 1785) and died 24 Feb. 1878 at Port Lorne, Nova Scotia, at age 96.  He was listed as age 86 in the 1871 census.  He married Esther White, daughter of Rev. John White.  Esther joined the Baptist Church in Port Lorne in 1830.  She was age 84 in 1871 (born about 1787) and died in Aug. 1878.  They lived at Port Lorne, Bay of Fundy, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia.

At the same period that John Graves (son of Joseph Graves who arrived in St. John from CT about 1760) joined the Baptist Church at Wilmot and Granville Mountain, an Esther Graves also joined.  She was the wife of David Graves, and in 1838 they were living on the Port Lorne Mt. Rd. with a family of six.  A Phineas Graves, with wife Eliza and a family of nine, was there also.

David Graves may have been a descendant of the Lt. William Graves who came with the Planters to Granville Township, was given lot number 11 in the Confirmation of Grants in 1764, and moved to Wilmot Township in 1777.  He may have been the father of the following children.  He was definitely the father of the last two.

In addition to this family, a Thomas Graves was in Wilmot Township, listed as a seaman in 1838, with a family of six.  In the 1838 census, his wife's name was given as Margaret, but Wilmot Twp. records say he married Maria Johnson and had sons: Uriah Graves, b. 1835; Thomas Graves, Jr., b. 1838.  Perhaps these are two different Thomases.

A second Phineas Graves was in Port Lorne in 1871, a carpenter, age 46 (b.c. 1825), wife Dorcas, age 26, and children Arabell, b.c. 1861, and Abbie, b.c. 1866.  David and Esther Graves were living with them at that time.

A William Graves was on the census of 1838, a tailor, with a family of 5.

The above is from Annapolis County Genealogies, a manuscript.
