1871 census. They were in the 1841,
1851 and 1861 censuses for Haddenham.
His occupation was listed as shoemaker in 1841, and cordwainer in 1851
and 1861. His place of birth is given
as Stretham. John Graves was head of
the houehold in the 1871 censuses for Haddenham, with Thomas and Ann living
with him in 1871, but only Anne with him in 1881. All their children were born in Haddenham, and none of them seem

[1] The 1797 date of birth for James Graves is based on his baptismal date of 1806, when he was 9 years of age. This date is supported by the 1851 census which listed his age as 55. Previously, he was believed to have been born 25 Dec. 1791, based on a reading of his tombstone sent to R‑1.
[2] Although her surname has been given as Yardley, it was given as Yardy in the 1851 census and as Yarday in the 1841 census, both of Cambridgeshire.
[3] The 1900 census gives her date of birth as Aug. 1840.
