Richard Graves (1) was born most likely before 1770, possibly 1760-1770. He married Alice Emons. They lived in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, England. All their children listed below were baptized in Haddenham. (R‑1)

CHILDREN OF RICHARD GRAVES (1) AND ALICE EMONS

Thomas Graves (3) was baptized 22 June 1791 in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire. He married Anne Negus on 13 Oct. 1814. She was born about 1796 in Haddenham. They probably both died 1861-1871, since neither of them were in the 1871 census. They were in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses for Haddenham. His occupation was listed as shoemaker in 1841, and cordwainer in 1851 and 1861. His place of birth is given as Stretham. John Graves was head of the houehold in the 1871 censuses for Haddenham, with Thomas and Ann living with him in 1871, but only Anne with him in 1881. All their children were born in Haddenham, and none of them seem to have married. (R‑1)

John Graves (4) was born about 1793 in Haddenham,, and was baptized 3 June 1806 at age 12 in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire. He married Hannah ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1792 in Stretham, Cambridgeshire. They were in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses for Stretham, Cambridgeshire. He was a farmer in 1841 and 1861, and a carter in 1851. Their children were born in Stretham.

The 1841 census for Stretham listed Mary Negus, 60, with John Graves, 20, shoemaker, living with her, both living next to John and Hannah Graves. The 1851 census for Stretham lists Mary Negus, 73, midwife, living next to John and Hannah, with the John Graves who was in her household in 1841 living next to her, now with wife Elizabeth, son James, and nephews John Taylor and Richard Taylor. They were in the 1851 census for Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, with their last 3 children. James was in the 1880 census for York, Benton Co., IN, page 252C, living with his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and William Burton.

She was born 10 April 1858 in Belmont Twp., Iroquois Co., IL, and was buried in Sheldon Twp., IL. [1] The 1797 date of birth for James Graves is based on his baptismal date of 1806, when he was 9 years of age. This date is supported by the 1851 census which listed his age as 55. Previously, he was believed to have been born 25 Dec. 1791, based on a reading of his tombstone sent to R‑1.

[2] Although her surname has been given as Yardley, it was given as Yardy in the 1851 census and as Yarday in the 1841 census, both of Cambridgeshire.

[3] The 1900 census gives her date of birth as Aug. 1840.
