DESCENDANTS OF NEWTON P. GRAVES OF AL & LA
GENERATION 1
Newton P. Graves (1) was born about 1858, and died 10 May 1903 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, LA. He first married Mary Simmons on 26 April 1882 in Monroe Co., AL. He married second Louann (or Lou-Ann) Lambert Lloyd on 23 Oct. 1889 in Monroe Co., AL. She was born in Nov. 1870 in AL. His family was in the 1900 census for Precinct 13, Monroe Co., AL, page 4B, with Luann Graves, 29, head, and children James R., Tinsie N., Vallie, and Walter, but Newton was not in the household. All his children were born in Monroe Co., AL. Newton has not been found in any census records.
It is possible that Newton was the one who was a son of Basil Graves and Rosina ‑‑‑‑‑‑ in genealogy 169. That Newton Graves was supposedly born about 1847-1850 in GA, according to census records, but the 1858 date may not be correct. Basil Graves lived in Henry Co., AL, and some of his children lived in Barbour Co. and Covington Co., AL. Covington Co. is close to Monroe Co. Also, the Graves DNA study showed that Newton P. Graves is very closely related to Basil Graves, so his being a son is not ruled out. (R‑1)
