DESCENDANTS OF CATHERINE C. GRAVES AND JARED L. PHILO OF NY AND LAPEER CO., MI

 

 

GENERATION 1

 

Catherine C. Graves (1) was born about 1821 in NY (according to census records) or 4 March 1814 in NY (according to R‑1), and died 12 March 1875 in Mayfield Twp., Lapeer Co., MI.  She married Jared L. Philo, son of Joseph Philo, about 1837, probably in NY.  He was born about 1811 in NY (according to the 1870 and 1880 censuses) or about 1806 in NY (according to R‑1), and died 21 Nov. 1896 in the Lapeer County Poorhouse, Lapeer, Lapeer Co., MI.

They were in the 1840 census for Lyons, Wayne Co., NY, with one son under 5.  They were in the 1850 census for Huron Twp., Wayne Co., NY. They were in the 1860 census for Lapeer, Lapeer Co., MI.  They were in the 1870 census for Mayfield Twp., Lapeer Co., MI.  He was in the 1880 census for Mayfield, Lapeer Co., MI, widowed, with only his grandson, Americus Booth (changed to Philo), living with him.  He was a farmer in every census exept 1860, when he was listed as a lumberman.  Their first 6 children were born in NY, and the next 3 in MI.  (R‑1)

    2.  William Philo, b.c. 1838 (or July 1842), m. Mary E. Robinson, 24 Sept. 1895 (Smith, St. Clair Co., MI), d. 6 March 1910 (Riley (probably Riley Center), St. Clair Co., MI).  She was b. Oct. 1855 in MI.

    3.  Caroline Philo, b.c. 1843 (or 10 Feb. 1848), d. 20 March 1873 (Mayfield Twp., Lapeer Co., MI).

+4.   Worth Philo, b.c. 1848, m. Georgianna Gardner,  d. 7 April 1873.

    5.  John Philo, b.c. May 1850.

+6.   Henry Patrick Philo, b. March 1850, m. Sarah Jane Young, d. 20 March 1936.

+7.   Franklin Pierce Philo, b. 18 Sept. 1854, d. 12 Aug. 1887.

    8,  Mary Ann Philo, b.c. Nov. 1855, d. 7 June 1859 (Lapeer Co., MI).

GENERATION 2

 

CHILDREN OF CATHERINE C. GRAVES (1) AND JARED L. PHILO

Worth Philo (4) was born about 1848 in NY, and died 7 April 1873 in Mayfield Twp., Lapeer Co., MI.  He married Georgianna Gardner.  She was born about 1849 in Lapeer Co., MI.  (R‑1)

Henry Patrick Philo (6) was born in March 1850 in NY[1], and died 20 March 1936 in Boston, Ionia Co., MI.  He married Sarah Jane Young.  She was born in Nov. 1857 in NY.  He was living with his parents in 1860 and 1870 in Lapeer Co., MI.  He and Sarah were in the 1900 census for Boston, Ionia Co., MI.  All their children were born in MI.  (R‑1)

    12.   Bessie Philo, b. Feb. 1885.

    13.   Franklin P. (probably Pierce) Philo, b. April 1887.

Franklin Pierce Philo (7) was born 18 Sept. 1854 in Lapeer Twp., Lapeer Co., MI, and died 12 aug. 1887 in Speaker Twp., Sanilac Co., MI.  He married Alice Brookins, daughter of Almon Brookins and Mary E. Weston, on 19 Oct. 1876 in Elba, Lapeer co., MI.  She was born 21 Feb. 1857 and died 11 Jan. 1946, both in Elba Twp., Lapeer Co., MI.  All their children were born in MI.  (R‑1)

CHILDREN OF FRANKLIN P. PHILO (7) AND ALICE BROOKINS

Herbert Almon Philo (16) was born 12 Aug. 1879 in MI.  He married Myrtle Langdon.  He was in the 1930 census for Detroit, Wayne Co., MI, widowed, with daughter Thelma, listed as 16.  (R‑1)

    19.   Hazel Alta Philo, b.c. 1911, d.c. 1911.

    20.   Thelma May Philo, b. 17 March 1919, d. July 1985.

    21.   Philip Philo, b. 28 Feb. 1922, d. April 1970.

 

Archie Philo (17) was born 7 July 1881 in MI, and died 30 Oct. 1963 in Belfast, ME.  He married Ida ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1883 in IL.  (R‑1)

    22.   Violet A. Philo, b.c. 1908 (OH).

 

Franklin Pierce Philo (18) was born 12 Aug. 1884 in Watertown, Sanilac Co., MI, and died 6 Dec. 1914 in Lapeer, Lapeer Co., MI.  He married Vira Smith, daughter of Stephen Cobb Smith and Mary Jane Dockham, on 24 June 1908 in Mayfield Twp., Lapeer Co., MI.  She was born 20 April 1887 in Deerfield, Lapeer Co., MI, and died 16 Jan. 1972 in Davison, Genesee Co., MI.  All their children were born in Lapeer, MI.  (R‑1)

+23.   Kenneth Walter Philo, b. 25 July 1909, m. Ardith M. Thompson, d. 29 Nov. 1988 (McLaren Hospital, Flint, Genesee Co., MI).  She was b. 24 March 1911 in MI, and d. 9 Jan. 2002 in McLaren Regional Medical Center, Flint, MI.

+24.   Fern Amber Philo, b. 26 March 1911, m. Ross Virgil Diehl, 12 July 1935 (2nd and State Rd., Davison, Genesee Co., MI), d. 28 May 1983 (Flint, Genesee Co., MI).  He was b. 10 May 1908 in Richfield Twp., and d. 20 Aug. 1990 in Flint, both in Genesee Co., MI, son of Philip Diehl and Alice Ross.

+25.   Veva J. Philo, b. 7 Oct. 1913, m. Carleton Joseph Norris, 25 Oct. 1946 (Methodist Parsonage, Davison, Genesee Co., MI), d. 30 June 2004 (at home on Bristol Rd., Davison, Genesee Co., MI).  He was b. 23 June 1911 in Three Rivers, WI, and d. 8 April 1975 in Baxter General Hospital, Mountain Home, AR).

[1] Date and place according to the 1900 census, and confirmed by the 1860 and 1870 census.  The date was probably 15 March 1850.  R‑1 has him b. 15 March 1846, but that year is clearly wrong.  He was no in the 1850 census.
