DESCENDANTS OF OLIVE GRAVES AND REUBEN PRENTICE

OF CT & MA

GENERATION 1

Olive Graves (1) may have been born about 1770, possibly in Belchertown, MA, and died in 1851 in East Longmeadow, MA. She married Reuben Prentice, son of James Prentice and Anna Kibbe, on 23 April 1789. He was born 21 Feb. 1767 and died in 1850, both in Somers, CT. In 1807 she transferred from the church in Somers, CT, Rev. W. L. Strong, Pastor, and returned to the church in Somers, CT by certificate in 1812. All their children were born in Somers, CT.

She may have been Olive Green instead of Olive Graves. Early MA marriages prior to 1800: Hampshire Co., Blanford, Reuben Prentice of Somers and Olive Green, April 23, 1789. Somers records say Graves. According to her death certificate, Olive Prentiss died in East Longmeadow on July 17, 1852. Her father is listed as Joel Green, but that is not correct. A Joel Green was her son-in-law and probably made funeral arrangements. (R‑1, R‑2)

Russell W. Prentice (9) was born 31 Jan. 1813 in Tolland, CT. He married Martha J. Heath in 1837. She was born in Brimfield, MA. (R‑2)

Emeline Sophie Bowers (10) was born 26 Aug. 1837, and died 7 April 1923 in Stratford, CT. She married ‑‑‑‑‑‑ Lamb. (R‑1)

CHILDREN OF RUSSELL W. PRENTICE (9) AND MARTHA J. HEATH

Henry K. Prentice (11) was born about 1840 in Somers, CT, and died in 1883 in Hamden, MA. He was raised by Shakers but left their community at age 16. He married Sarah Marie Edmonds, daughter of Zephaniah Edmonds and Adeline Jewell. She was born 11 Nov. 1837 in Dudley, MA, and died in 1886 in Hampden, MA. They were in the 1880 census for Hampden, Hampden Co., MA. His occupation was wool carder. (R‑2, R‑3)

Etta May Prentice (15) was born in 1875 in New Hartford, CT, and died 19 Feb. 1960 in Westfield, MA. She married Fred Laurens Clark, son of Francis Warren Clark and Delina Chapman. He was born 3 May 1863 in Montgomery, MA, and died in 1951 in Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.. (R‑2, R‑3)

Ruth Luella Clark (19) was born 22 May 1897 in Russellville, MA, died in Feb. 1897 in Westfield, MA, and was buried in Westfield. She married Leo Derwood Otis, son of Walter Derwood Otis and Mary Minerva Clark, in 1918. He was born in 1896 and died in 1958, both in Westfield, MA. She was a homemaker and a school cafeteria worker. She was Baptist. He was a gasoline station owner, minerologist, and museum director. (R‑2)
