BOOKER J. GRAVES AND CELIA A. E. ------ OF PITTSYLVANIA CO., VA

GENERATION 1

Booker J. Graves (1) was born about 1830 (1827-1835) in VA.  He married Celia A. E. ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1836-1840 in VA.  They were in the 1870 census for North of Dan River, Pittsylvania Co., VA.  They were in the 1880 census for Pigg River, Pittsylvania Co., VA.  He was a farmer.

The white Graves families living in the immediate area were all descendants of Peyton Graves and Charlotte Pinkard of genealogy 220 (Francis Graves of VA).  There may be a match for Booker Graves and his family with some of the 45 slaves (in the 1860 census) of Dinny Graves (widow of James Graves who was a son of Peyton Graves).  See the Slave Records section on the African Ancestry page of the GFA website.

In 1870, Booker was living next to Foster Graves, who also had a son named Doctor.  They may have been brothers.  There was also a family in the 1880 census for Pigg River headed by another person names Doctor Graves, born about 1830, with wife Lucy.  (R‑1)
