John Graves (1) married Elizabeth Field about 1812 in or near Old Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, England. She was born 7 Feb. 1790. He was described as a "laborer". John must have died shortly after their one daughter, Susanna, was born, since Elizabeth then married John Slingsby, who was born 23 Aug. 1778. Elizabeth was his second wife.

John Slingsby had first married Elizabeth ------. They had 4 or 5 children, all born near Old Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, England. They were: Peter Slingsby, b. 13 Oct. 1802; Jane Slingsby, b. 12 Aug. 1804; John Slingsby, b. 22 Sept. 1806; Richard Slingsby, b. 12 July 1809. Then there is an Elizabeth Slingsby, born 12 Aug. 1812. According to this birthdate, she must have been a child of the first Elizabeth, but a great-aunt of Mrs. Johnson wrote that she had a Bible listing her as the first child of John Slingsby's second marriage. In that case, Susanna Graves would have had to have been born before 1813. John's first wife died.

John and Elizabeth (Field)(Graves) Slingsby had four more children: Judith, b. 28 March 1814; Mary Elizabeth, b. 22 Aug. 1816, d. 1895 in Cass Co., ND, m. Charles McKinnon; Emma, b. 24 Sept. 1818; Amos, b. 29 July 1821.

All of these children -- his, hers and theirs -- grew up together, and John Slingsby's son, Peter Slingsby, married Susanna Graves.

Because of where the families lived, there may be a connection of this family with that of Robert Graves and Elizabeth ------ (gen. 317) and with that of George Graves and Sarah Barber (gen. 340). (R-1)

Susanna (or Susannah) Graves (2) was born 5 March 1813, was baptized 12 Aug. 1813 by Curate William Emlyn in Old Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire, England, and died in 1858. She married Peter Slingsby, son of John Slingsby and Elizabeth ------, on 12 Aug. 1829 by Curate William Emlyn in Old Bolingbroke. Peter's name was recorded as "Peter Slingsby Field" for some reason. He was born 13 Oct. 1802 and died in 1855.

They had 5 children who were baptized in Carrington Parish, Lincolnshire, England, which is near Old Bolingbroke. They emigrated to America around 1846, settling in Winnebago Co., WI. They had 2 more children there. (R-1)

George Digby Slingsby (3) was born 26 Dec. 1831 in Lincolnshire, England, and died 23 May 1909 in Humboldt Co., CA. He married Elizabeth Whip about 1854 in Rush Lake, Winnebago Co., WI. All their children were born in Winnebago Co., near Rush Lake. They moved to Ferndale, Humboldt Co., CA about 1885, and Elizabeth and all the children died there, except for George, who died in Hope, ND. (R-1)

George Digby Slingsby, Jr. (12) was born 23 Oct. 1859 in Winnebago Co., WI, near Rush Lake, and died 25 June 1945 in Hope, Steele Co., ND. He married Mary Ellen Lowe of Winnebago Co., WI on 21 Jan. 1885 in WI. They left immediately for Hope, Steele Co., ND, where George had homesteaded for two years. They lived there until their deaths. Mary died 2 July 1925. Both their children were born in Hope, ND, and died in Minneapolis, MN. (R-1)

He married Amy Ida Goble, daughter of William Wesley Goble and Mary Frances Ferrill, on 9 March 1904 in Grizzley Bluff, Humboldt Co., CA. She was born 25 Sept. 1886 in Humboldt Co., CA, and died 3 July 1971 in Myrtle Point, OR. (R-2)
