DESCENDANTS
OF ISAAC WATLINGTON AND ELMIRA (‑‑‑‑‑‑)
RUSSELL OF CASWELL CO., NC
PREFACE
This genealogy has
been taken entirely from public records such as census records, marriage
records, and death certificates.
If anyone has reason to believe there are errors in any of this
material, please notify us with evidence of the correct information, and we
will gladly make any corrections and additions.
GENERATION 1
Issac Watlington (1) married Elmira
(‑‑‑‑‑‑) Russell[1]. They are listed on Monjett GravesÕ
marriage certificate as his parents.
Elmira was born in May 1825 (according to the 1900 census) in AL, and
died after 1910, probably in Caswell Co., NC. She married Quincy (ÒQuinÓ) Russell. He was born about 1825 in VA, and died
after 1880. Elmira and Quincy were
recorded on the 1870 census in Yanceyville, Caswell Co., NC with a ten-year old
Boyd Graves living with them. Boyd
is being included here as another son of ElmiraÕs. Elmira and Quincy were also recorded on the 1880 census in
Locust Hill, Caswell Co., NC living next door to Monjet and and Alice. Elmira was on the 1900 and 1910
censuses for Locust Hill, Caswell Co., NC, living with Monjett and his family. In 1900, Elmira stated that her only child
was living; in 1910, that information was not recorded. In 1910, her age was recorded as 97,
born about 1813, so she may have been born before 1825.
Although it is possible that
ElmiraÕs surname before marriage was Graves, most slaves didnÕt have surnames,
so the Graves surname for her children could have just been because their
former owner was named Graves.
