DESCENDANTS OF ROBERT GREEVES OF GREAT DALBY, LEICESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND

GENERATION 1

Robert Greeves (1) married Isabell ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  They were of Dalby Chacombe, co. Leicester.  His will was proved 6 Sept. 1593 at Leicester.  After Robert died, Isabell married William Mabbes on 11 Dec. 1595.

It is possible that the Greeves family had lived in the vicinity of Melton Mowbray for some time.  There was a Richard Greeves who was married in 1557, possibly RobertÕs father or other relative.

The surname is spelled variously Greeves, Greves, Greaves, and later Graves, in the records.  This does not indicate lack of relationship, and was caused by names being written phonetically, and a lack of concern for the exact spelling.

The will of Robert Greeves is found in Leic. Wills, 1593, no. 94.
