DESCENDANTS
OF ROBERT GREEVES OF GREAT DALBY, LEICESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND
GENERATION
1
Robert Greeves (1)
married Isabell ‑‑‑‑‑‑. They were of Dalby Chacombe, co.
Leicester. His will was proved 6
Sept. 1593 at Leicester. After
Robert died, Isabell married William Mabbes on 11 Dec. 1595.
It is possible that
the Greeves family had lived in the vicinity of Melton Mowbray for some
time. There was a Richard Greeves
who was married in 1557, possibly RobertÕs father or other relative.
The surname is
spelled variously Greeves, Greves, Greaves, and later Graves, in the
records. This does not indicate
lack of relationship, and was caused by names being written phonetically, and a
lack of concern for the exact spelling.
The will of Robert
Greeves is found in Leic. Wills, 1593, no. 94.

bottom of this page shows some of the places in Leicestershire where this part
of the Graves family lived -- Great Dalby, Rearsby, South Croxton,
Thrussington, Mountsorrel, Rothley, Thurcaston, Anstey, and Loughborough. All these places are very close;
Loughborough is only about 10 miles north of Leicester. (R‑2)

time, and there is no other Robert Greaves listed at that time in Great
Dalby. (R‑2)
