DESCENDANTS OF PHILLIP GRAVES AND ELIZABETH STRICKLAND

OF TN & TX

GENERATION 1

Phillip (or Philip) Graves (1) was born about 1813-1815 in TN, and probably died before 1870.  He married Elizabeth Strickland in Panola Co., TX.  She was born about 1830-1835 in TX.  He was a farmer.  He owned land in Panola Co. in 1841-1910.  The land was from a land grant to Ames Strickland, so it is believed that Phillip inherited or bought the land from his father-in-law.  On the death record of Emaline Graves, it stated that her mother was a Strickland.  They were listed in the 1850 census for Panola Co., TX, page 153, which listed Philip, Elizabeth, and their first 5 children, all children born in TX.  The 1860 census for Beat 4, Parker Co., TX, Weatherford P.O., listed Philip, 47, Elizabeth, 30, Sarah, 18, Mary, 10, Eliza, 8, Philip, 6, Samuel, 4, and John, 2.  In the 1870 census for Panola Co., TX, the 4 youngest children were living with their brother William, indicating that perhaps both parents had died.  All their children were born in TX.  (R‑1, R‑2)
