DESCENDANTS OF PARENTS OF JOSEPH GRAVES OF TN WHO MARRIED AMANDA VAUGHN

GENERATION 1

‑‑‑‑‑‑ Graves (1) may have been born about 1800. He married ‑‑‑‑‑‑. They lived in TN. It is known that they had at least two sons because son Joseph had a niece with the Graves surname. Although their son Joseph has not been found in the 1850 census and granddaughter Hannah has not been found in the 1860 census, it is possible that a thorough house-by-house search of the records for Rutherford and Williamson counties might succeed.

A son (2) lived in TN. He married ‑‑‑‑‑‑. If this family or at least their daughter Hannah could be found in the 1860 census, then the mystery of who they were could be found. So far, there has been no success at finding Hannah in the 1860 census.

Joseph L. Graves (3) was born about 1830 in TN. He married Amanda (“Mandy”) Vaughn. She was born about 1825 in AL. He has not been found in the 1850 census. They are almost certainly the ones in the 1860 census for District 14, Rutherford Co., TN, Smyrna post office, with J. L. Graves, 32, M. Graves, 38, A. Robinson, 15, P. Robinson, 15, and H. Graves, 1, all born in TN. They were in the 1870 census for District 16, Williamson Co., TN, Franklin post office, with son James, and Hannah E. Graves, born about 1853 in TN, also living with them. They were in the 1880 census for District 14, Williamson Co., TN, with Hannah, niece, single, still living with them. Joseph was a farmer. (R‑1)

Hannah E. Graves (4) was born in March 1854 in TN, and died about 1908 in Williamson Co., TN. She married Samuel E. Robertson on 30 Dec. 1880 in Williamson Co., TN. He was born 5 April 1857 in Williamson Co., TN, and died 23 Aug. 1928 in Davidson Co., TN. They were in the 1900 census for Williamson Co., TN. They had 7 sons, all born in TN, probably all in Williamson Co. (R‑2)

James Henry Graves (5) was born about 1858 (or April 1859, according to the 1900 census, or 26 April 1860) in TN, and died 16 Sept. 1928 in Franklin, Williamson Co., TN. He married Laura Gertrude Ladd, daughter of Joseph H. Ladd and Emaline (“Emily”) C. Waggoner, 25 Dec. 1883 in Williamson Co., TN. She was born about 1860 (or Feb. 1861, according to the 1900 census) in TN. They were in the 1900 census for Williamson Co., TN, on Chrisman Mill Turnpike, when all 8 of their children were living, and his partner Thomas Stephens was living with them. Both James and Thomas were blacksmiths. They were in the 1910 census for Williamson Co., TN, when James was a farmer, all 9 of their children were living, only the last 6 were still at home, and married children John and Annie were living next door. All their children were born in TN, probably all in Williamson Co. (R‑1, R‑3)

Crunk and Mary E. ‑‑‑‑‑‑, on 20 Dec. 1906 in Williamson Co., TN. He was born 6 June 1876 in TN, and died 13 June 1956 in TN. He first married Sallie ‑‑‑‑‑‑ in 1899, and had a son, Jim Will Crunk, b. 1904. John and Sallie were in the 1900 census for Williamson Co., TN, with no children.
