DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE W. GRAVES AND MARGARET ------ OF DAVIE CO., NC

GENERATION 1

George W. Graves (1) was born about 1798-1800 in Rowan Co., NC. He may have been a son of the George Graves of genealogy 15, born about 1770 and died in 1837. He married Margaret ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1795-1797. They were in the 1830 census for Rowan Co., NC (that part of Rowan Co., that became Davie Co.), and in the 1840 census for Davie Co., NC. They were in the 1850 census for Davie Co., NC, with their son Jacob living with them. They were in the 1860 census for Mocksville, Davie Co., NC, with no one else in their household. He was a farmer. (R1)

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF GEORGE W. GRAVES (1) AND MARGARET ------

Jacob B. Graves (2) was born about 1827 in the part of Rowan Co., NC that became Davie Co. in 1836, and died 12 Sept. 1864 in Elmira, NY. He married Paulina Casey (or Cazie) on 7 Sept. 1850 (source: marriage bond record). She was born about 1834 in that part of Rowan Co. that became Davie Co., NC. Jacob served in the Confederate Army (his military records are available), was taken prisoner in the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, and was sent to the POW camp in Elmira, NY. He died there 12 Sept. 1864 of “hospital gangrene.” They were in the 1860 census for Chinquepin, Davie Co., NC, with her name spelled Perlina. He was a farmer. After Jacob’s death, Paulina supposedly moved to Shelby Co., IN, although she was in the 1870 census for Pipe Creek Twp., Madison Co., IN, with her 3 youngest children. (R‑1)

CHILDREN OF JACOB GRAVES (2) AND PAULINA CASEY

George W. Graves (3) was born about 1851 in NC. He married Sarah J. ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1853 in IN. They were in the 1880 census for Pipe Creek Twp., Madison Co., IN, when he was a laborer. They have not yet been found in the 1900 census.

Sarah M. Graves (4) was born in May 1852 in IN. She married George Casto, son of Abijah Casto and Rebecca ‑‑‑‑‑‑, about 1872. He was born in Jan. 1851 in IN. They were in the 1880 census for Green Twp., Grant Co., IN. They were in the 1900 census for Pipe Creek Twp., Madison Co., IN, when 6 of their 7 children were still living. He was a day laborer.

12. William N. Casto, b. Feb. 1879. He was a boarder in 1900 in Pipe Creek Twp., Madison Co., IN, probably living with a cousin.

15. Florence Casto, b. Oct. 1897.
