GENERATION 1

 

Joseph Graves (or Greaves) (1) was baptized 12 Sept. 1723 in Dalham, West Suffolk, England, 'base son' of Mary Graves. He was buried 6 Oct. 1791, aged 71, in Denham, West Suffolk, so was apparently born about 1720. He married Mary Hoy (or Hoye) on 2 Aug. 1752 (?). She was buried 29 Aug. 1817, aged 87, in Denham, so was apparently born about 1730.

CHILDREN OF JOSEPH GRAVES (1) AND MARY HOY

Thomas Graves (2) was baptized 17 May 1753 in Denham, West Suffolk, and was buried 23 April 1834, aged 81, in Denham (born about 1750). He was a labourer, and was Parish Clerk of Denham until 1834. He married Frances Nunn, daughter of John Nunn and Mary Lofts, on 16 Nov. 1779 in Denham. She was baptized 12 Aug. 1744 in Hargrave, and was buried 16 Feb. 1823, aged 80, in Denham (born about 1843). Mary Graves (4) was baptized 27 July 1757 in Denham, West Suffolk. She married Edward Leech (or Leach) on 11 Nov. 1788 in Denham. (R-1)

CHILDREN OF THOMAS GRAVES (2) AND FRANCES NUNN

Joseph Graves (6) was baptized 8 Oct. 1780 in Denham, West Suffolk. He was an agricultural labourer. He first married Mary Talbot(t), daughter of Samuel Talbot (labourer, of Barrow) and Mary Death, on 27 Nov. 1805 by license in Barrow. She was born 8 May 1782 in Barrow, and was buried 14 July 1807, aged 25 (born about 1782). Joseph secondly married Elizabeth Nunn, spinster, on 25 Dec. 1817 in Denham.

Census records show Joseph and Elizabeth Graves living at Denham End in 1841 and 1861. (R-1)

17. Mary Graves, b. 13 March 1806, bapt. 16 March 1806 (Denham), m. William Todd, 12 May 1827 (Lidgate, by license), d. Newmarket Union Workhouse, Exning. Bur. 26 Dec. 1890, Dalham, aged 84, of Dunstall Green. William was an agricultural labourer, b. 19 Dec. 1805, Lawshall, son of James Todd and Ann Clark. Living at Dunstall Green in 1841, 1861, 1871.

 

CHILDREN OF MARY GRAVES (4) AND EDWARD LEECH

Joseph Edward Leech (or Leach) (13) was born 29 July 1793, and was baptized 11 Aug. 1793 in Denham, West Suffolk. He was a labourer, and Parish Clerk of Denham in 1844. He first married Frances Pearsons, spinster, on 11 Jan. 1821 in Denham. She was buried 15 Oct. 1825, aged 32 (born about 1793), in Denham. He secondly married Sarah Dyson, spinster, on 20 July 1832 in Denham. All his children were born in Denham. (R-1)
