DESCENDANTS OF ELIZABETH GRAVES, JAMES WILSON

AND DAVID PRESLEY OF SC

GENERATION 1

Elizabeth ("Betsy") Graves (1) was born about 1795. She first married James Wilson. They had children. After James died, Betsy supposedly married second David Presley (or Pressley). However, since there were apparently no children by the marriage of Betsy and David, and all David’s children were by Betsy’s daughter, Evaline, the exact situation is not clear.

In the 1860 census of SC, Elizabeth Presley, age 65, was listed as head of household. Living in the household were her daughter Evaline and Evaline's children.

Most of the information from R‑1 was given to her many years ago by her great uncle, who could neither read nor write. That is the only way that Betsy’s maiden name is known. (R‑1)

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF ELIZABETH GRAVES (1)

Evaline (or Eveline) Wilson (2) was born about 1820 in SC. She was listed in the 1860 census for SC, living in the household of her mother, with the following children. It is assumed she married, but that is not known for sure. Acccording to R‑1, all Evaline’s children were by David Presley. There is a record in the IGI of the LDS Church stating that Eveline (or Evelyn) Wilson was born 1819, married David Presley about 1838 in Salem, Oconee Co., SC, and that he died in 1877. It is not clear whether Evaline married. All the children took the Wilson name, and all (with the possible exception of Malichi) were born in Salem, Oconee Co., SC. (R‑1)

GENERATION 3

CHILDREN OF EVALINE WILSON (2)

Adaline (or Harriet?) Wilson (4) was born about 1840 in SC, and died in 1897.. She married Jeptha (or Jefferson S.) Reese. In the 1860 census she was listed as Harriet. However, it is believed that she is the Adaline Reese in the 1880 census for Keowee, Oconee Co., SC, page 363C, married to Jefferson S. Reese, farmer, age 35, born in SC. All their children were born in SC. (R‑1)

John Wilson (6) was born 20 March 1845 in SC, and died 8 Dec. 1907 in Manassa, Conejas Co., CO. He married Arah Melissa Ross on 22 Jan. 1871 Walhalla, Oconee Co., SC. She was born about 1856 in SC. These are the grandparents of Dorothy Erickson. They were in the 1880 census for Keowee, Oconee Co., SC, page 362A. He was a farmer. All their children were born in SC. In addition to the children listed below, there was a David W. Todd, age 11, born SC, listed as son, in the household. Perhaps he was a son of John by another woman before John married Arah. (R‑1)

Taylor Zacariah (or Zacarias) Wilson (8) was born 24 Oct. 1850 in SC, and died 12 June 1912. He married Sarah Melinda Ross, sister of Arah. She was born about 1858 in SC. They were in the 1880 census for Keowee, Oconee Co., SC, page 358B. He was a farmer. All their children were born in SC. (R‑1)
