DESCENDANTS OF THOMAS GREAVES AND MARY ANN SALTHOUSE OF DERBYSHIRE & LIVERPOOL, LANCASHIRE

GENERATION 1

Thomas Greaves (1) was born about 1812 in Derbyshire[1], England. He married Mary Ann Salthouse, daughter of George Salthouse and Mary Burns, in 1833. She was born about 1812 in Liverpool, Lancashire. They were in the 1841 census for St. Thomas Parish, Liverpool, and in the 1851 and 1861 censuses for St. Martin Parish, Liverpool. In 1851, Margaret Dale, widow, age 40, was living with them. Margaret was a sister of Mary Ann Salthouse, born about 1807 in Liverpool, married to John Dale. Thomas was a warehouseman. All their children were born in Liverpool, Lancashire. (R‑1, R‑2)

5. Thomas Salthouse Greaves, b. April 1842, bapt. 3 May 1842 (St. Peter, Liverpool). This may be the Thomas Graves, b.c. 1842, with wife Margaret, in the 1871 census for Liverpool, but that is doubtful.

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF THOMAS GREAVES (1) AND MARY A. SALTHOUSE

Elizabeth Greaves (6) was born about 1844 (or 1846) in Liverpool, Lancashire. She married Frederick Clayton, son of Thomas Clayton and Hannah Wilcock[2], in Jan.-March 1869 in Liverpool. He was born April-May 1841 and died in Oct. 1912, both in Liverpool. All their children were born in Liverpool (according to R‑2), or all in Liverpool except for Thomas in Sefton, Lancs., and George in West Derby, Lancs (according to R‑3). (R‑2, R‑3)

John Dale Greaves (7) was born about 1852 in Liverpool, Lancashire, and died in April 1904 in Lancashire. He married Sarah Ada Cawley. She was born about 1852 in Chester. All their children were born in Liverpool. (R‑1)

Mary Elizabeth Clayton (8) was born Jan.-March 1870 and died in 1936, both in Liverpool, Lancashire. She married John Henry Bragg in July 1892. He was born 5 April 1870 and died in 1915, both in Liverpool. All their children were born in Liverpool. (R‑3)

21. Harry Bragg, b.c. 1907.

Thomas Clayton (10) was born April-June 1874 in Sefton, Lancashire, and died in Dec. 1954 in Liverpool, Lancashire. He married Sarah Winn in 1900 in St. Davids, Liverpool. She was born about 1879 in Sefton, Lancashire. All their children were born in Liverpool, at least the first 3 in Walton. (R‑3)

Harold Dale Greaves (15) was born 24 June 1884 in St. Saviour, Liverpool, Lancashire, and died 20 Sept. 1918 in Flanders, France in World War I. He married Ellen Benson on 22 June 1911 in St. Saviour, Everton, Lancashire. She was born 18 Oct. 1892 in Bootle, Liverpool, and died 2 Dec. 1971 in Sefton General Hospital, Liverpool. (R‑1, R‑4)

Thomas Winn Clayton (22) was born about 1896 in Walton, Liverpool, Lancashire, and died in 1987. He married Victoria May Wynne. She was born in 1894 in Freshfield, Lancashire, and died in June 1942 in Liverpool North, Lancashire. (R‑3)
