Catherine Graves (1) was born in 1747 in Maryland. She married John Cheshire. He was born in 1745 in St. Mary's Co., MD, and died 2 Feb. 1832. While in his early 30's he served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Brevard's Co., 10th Regt., NC Continental Line. He was a wealthy farmer and slave owner. The family moved to Rowan Co., NC in the early 1800's.

Because they lived in Rowan Co., NC, and one of their sons married a granddaughter of Conrad Graves and Mary Fraser (genealogy 15), it seems likely that Catherine was closely related to Conrad, perhaps a sister, and was also of German ancestry.

There is some question about this family information. Catherine Graves would have been 42-48 years of age at the birth of her three children for whom birth dates are known. That is unusual. (R-1)

Tennison Cheshire (3) was born 1 Nov. 1791 and died about 1853. He married Barbara Mock, daughter of Catharine C. Graves and John Mock, on 11 June 1818. Catharine C. Graves was a daughter of Conrad Graves and Mary Fraser.
