DESCENDANTS
OF SAMUEL GRAVES AND ELIZABETH DENBO OF KY & IN
GENERATION
1
Samuel Graves (1)
was supposedly born about 1810, according to several family trees on
Ancestry.com. His name is known
from the Indiana marriage records.
He married Elizabeth Denbo, daughter of Robert Denbo and Emily ‑‑‑‑‑‑,
on 29 Sept. 1853 in Crawford Co., IN[1]. She was born 29 Sept. 1831 in Harrison
Co., IN, and died 13 April 1912 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. Samuel supposedly lived in KY, and is
said to have been killed in the Civil War. However, Elizabeth was head of household in both the 1860
and 1870 censuses for Union, Crawford Co., IN. Efforts to find Samuel in the 1850 and 1860 censuses have
been unsuccessful.
Elizabeth Denbo is
in the 1850 census for Union, Crawford, KY, daughter of Robert and Emily Denbo,
with a large family of brothers and sisters. Harrison Co. (where Elizabeth was born and where other Denbo
families lived) is next to Crawford Co., both on the Ohio River across from KY. No one named Samuel Graves could be
found in either of these counties nor in neighboring counties in either IN or
KY.
Elizabeth married second
Lemuel Ford on 24 Nov. 1870 in Crawford Co., IN. They were in the 1880 census for Union, Crawford Co., IN,
with Lemuel Ford, 58, wife Elizabeth, 48, and daughters Nancy, 26, and
Cordelia, 12, all born in IN. (R‑2,
R‑4)
