Thomas Thaddeus Graves (2) was born 2 July 1820 in Cheraw, SC, and died in 1867 in Jefferson, TX. He married Caroline Elizabeth Nall. She was born in 1826 in Monroe Co., GA, and died in 1879 in Union Springs, Bullock Co., AL. They were in the 1860 census for Cherokee Co., TX, when he was a saddler. The 1870 census for Waco, McLennan Co., TX, listed his widowed wife and children John, Mary J. Turner, Charles, and Thomas; John was working in a saddle shop and Charles was a printer’s apprentice. Their first child was born in Union Springs, Bullock Co., AL, the next 3 in AL, and the last 2 in TX. (R‑1, R‑2)

John Alexander Graves (3) was born about 1824 in SC, died 28 Dec. 1896 in DeSoto Parish, LA, and was buried in Grand Cane Cem., DeSoto Parish, LA. He was called John Alvin Graves in a book, but Alexander is the middle name on his gravestone. He first married Clara Martina Jackson, daughter of Abraham Wyche Jackson and Jane F. Crow (or Crowe), on 17 July 1849 in DeSoto Parish, LA. She was born 1 July 1831 in Perry Co., AL, died 13 July 1869 in DeSoto Parish, LA, and was buried in Evergreen Cem., DeSoto Parish, LA. He married second Adeline B. Franklin on 30 Dec. 1869 in DeSoto Parish, LA. She was born 27 June 1847 in AL, and died 8 Sept. 1874 in DeSoto Parish, LA. He married third Dulcina Baker after 1874, probably in TX. She was born about 1835 in NC. He married fourth Cornelia Elizabeth Snell about 1885 in Dale Co., AL. She was born 19 Dec. 1847 in AL, and died 30 Dec. 1908 in Gloster, DeSoto Parish, LA.

John A. Graves was an astute businessman and is said to have had large gold holdings. During his career, he operated a store in Kingston and later in Gloster, both in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. He was a handsome, well-to-do man. (The Nelsons and Scotts of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana and Related Families, 1969, p. 180.) In 1866, John Graves was the commissioner of elections for the Kingston area of the parish. (Louisiana Genealogical Register, v. XXI, No. 3, Sept. 1974, p. 219.)

He was in the 1850 census for DeSoto Parish, LA, 26, planter, with Clara, 19, and no children. They were in the 1860 census for DeSoto Parish, LA, with J. A., 35, Clara T., 28, Frances J., 6, Mary J., 5, Sarah J., 3, Charles, 2, and John, 1. It is possible that he is also the J. A. Graves, 35, merchant, in the 1860 census for Lynchburg, Sumter Co., SC, but none of the rest of his family were there; perhaps he was on a business trip. He was a merchant. He was in the 1870 census for Ward 4, DeSoto Parish, LA, as J. A., 46, merchant, with wife Adeline, 29, and 8 children, Fanny, 16, Sarah, 14, Robert, 11, Charles, 11, Thomas, 9, Sarah, 7, Emma, 5, and Della, 2. The second Sarah must have been an error, or perhaps this was a step-child. (R‑2, R‑3)

John Easton Graves (4) was born 2 June 1847 in Union Springs, Bullock Co., AL, and died 10 Sept. 1930 in Brundidge, Pike Co., AL. He first married Alice Lodemia Talbot, daughter of Hal Talbot and Mary A. ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born 29 June 1853 in AL, and died 2 July 1884 in Troy, Pike Co., AL. She was in the 1870 census for Troy, Pike Co., AL, with her parents and older sister Ella. John and Alice were in the 1880 census for Troy, Pike Co., AL, living with her sister and her husband, John and Ella Wood. Both children were born in Troy, AL.

John married second Louise C. ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1861 in Washington (probably DC). (R‑1)

Jessie T. Graves (10) was probably born about 1851 (or possibly about 1868). He married ‑‑‑‑‑‑ in AL. They lived in Florida. He was not living with his parents in the 1860 or 1870 censuses, and he has not been definitely identified on any other censuses. It is possible that he was the Jessie T. Graves, 12 (b.c. 1868), LA, telegraphy, in the 1880 census for Greenwood, Bullock Co., AL, living with probable brother Charlie Graves, 27. It is likely that his wife was Lina, and that he died before 1900 and she then married Manning B. Smith, since they are in the 1900 census for Dothan, Henry Co., AL, with Travis Graves, stepson, b. Sept. 1886, TN. (R‑2)

24. John Travis Graves, b. 7 Sept. 1886 (or 1885[1]), m. Cassie Alma ‑‑‑‑‑‑, d. 4 Nov. 1973 (Gulf Co., FL). His World War I draft registration card shows he registered in Waycross, Ware Co., GA, at which time he was a conductor for ACL (Atlantic Coast Line) Railway, Waycross, living at 39 Prendergast St., Waycross, and married to Cassie Alma Graves.

Frances J. (“Fanny” or “Fannie”) Graves (11) was born in Feb. 1853, and died 12 Oct. 1922 in Winn Parish, LA. She married Frank Reno LeBaron on 7 April 1875 in DeSoto Parish, LA. He was born in Sept. 1849 in PA, and died 6 Oct. 1918 in Carro Parish, LA. They were both buried in Sloan Cem., DeSoto Parish, LA. They were in the 1900 census for Vernon Parish, LA, and the 1910 census for DeSoto Parish, LA. She was in the 1920 census for Red River Parish, LA, living with her son Theodore and family. Their first child was born in San Marcos, Hays Co., TX, and all the others in LA. (R‑2)

Mary Alberta Graves (12) was born about 1854 in DeSoto Parish, LA, and died in the 1870’s in Hays Co., TX. She married Archer Vaughn Lester (or Archie Vernon Lester) on 19 May 1870 in DeSoto Parish, LA. He was born 17 May 1847 in Marshall Co., MS, and died 2 June 1937. He served with Company B of the 2^nd Louisiana Cavalry in the Civil War. He lived his final years in the Confederate Men’s Home. They were in the 1870 census, Ward 1, Iberia Parish, LA. He was in the 1880 census for Precinct 1, Hays Co., TX, widower, living with his brother John R. Lester. He apparently remarried to Frances E. ‑‑‑‑‑‑ c. 1882 and had 6 children, 3 of whom were still living and listed in the 1900 census for Hays Co., TX. He was in the 1930 census for Hays Co., TX. (R‑2)
