GENERATION 1

James Grieve (1) was born about 1829 and died about 1876, both in Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland. The surname was sometimes spelled Grieves and Greeves. He married Catherine (“Kate”) McCue. She was born about 1831 in Ireland. The 1901 census for Ballintogher, Raholp, County Down, showed her living there on 31 March 1901 with children James and Ellen. All their children were born in County Down. (R‑1)

Margaret Grieves (2) was born about 1857 in Co. Down, Ireland. She married James Smyth on 3 Oct. 1881 in Saul, Co. Down.. He was born about 1859. (R‑1)

James Grieve (3) was born about 1861 and died in June 1912, both in Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland. He married Catherine Lennon on 25 May 1880 in Saul, Co. Down. She was born about 1860 in Ireland. All their children were born in Downpatrick, County Down. (R‑1)

James Grieve (7) was born 19 Oct. 1883 in Downpatrick, Co. Down, Ireland, and died 22 Feb. 1944 in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. He married Helen (or Ellen) Corrigan on 16 July 1908 in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was born 11 April 1889 Castlederg, County Tyrone, Ireland, and died 31 May 1957 in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. All their children were born in Blantyre, Scotland. (R‑1)

10. Robert Grieve, b. 8 Oct. 1913, m.Sarah O’Hara, 6 June 1941 (St. Ignatius RC Church, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland), d. 16 June 1978 (Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland). She was b.c. 1917 in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, and d. in South Africa.

11. James Grieve, b. 12 May 1914, m. Mary Ann (Maureen) McWhirter, d. 14 Sept. 1972 (East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland). She d. in Sept. 2005 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire. 3 sons and 1 daughter.

12. William Grieve, b. 14 Aug. 1915, m. Catherine O’Brien, 7 June 1935 (St. Joseph RC Church, Blantyre, Scotland), d. 11 Nov. 1973 (Blantyre, Scotland). She was b. 2 Dec. 1913 in Dalserf, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and d. 24 Jan. 1944 in Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. 2 sons and 2 daughters.

13. Margaret Grieve, b. 9 Dec. 1926, d. 25 Nov. 1981 (Blantyre, Scotland).
