Rev. 11 Aug. 2012, Gen. 484
WILLIAM GRAVES AND NANCY HARPER OF GA AND MS
GENERATION 1
William Graves (1) was born about 1797-1800 in GA, and died after 1870 in MS. He married Nancy Harper. She was born about 1805 in GA, and died 1850-1860 in Simpson Co., MS. They were in the 1850 census for Simpson Co., MS, when he was a blacksmith, a future son-in-law Adam White was a laborer on the family farm. William was in the 1860 census for Copiah Co., MS, with his daughter Amanda with him, and his daughter HarrietŐs family also with him. Living with Harriet and Adam in 1860 was an 11-year-old Graves boy, possibly named Aurelius or Anselem, who may have been another son of William and Nancy. William was in the 1870 census for Rankin Co., MS, with John W. and Mary J. Dear in his household, living next to Adam and Harriet White. He could not be found in the 1880 census. He was listed as a farmer in 1860 and 1870. All his children were born in MS.
It is believed that William Graves may have been a grandson of James Graves and Mary Copeland (genealogy 150), but no connection has yet been found. (R‑1, R‑2)
