DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM GRAVES OF MARION CO., SC

 

 

GENERATION 1

 

William Graves (1) was born about 1795 in Marion Co., SC[1], and died after 1850.  His wifeÕs name is not known.  He may have married ‑‑‑‑‑‑ Perritt (or Perrett).  William Graves lived next door to Jesse Perret [sic] in Marion Co., SC in 1840.  William and his children were recorded on the 1850 census in Marion Co., SC.  His children were also born in Marion Co., SC.  Son Gadi Graves was recorded on the 1860 census in Marion Co., SC with Jesse and Mary Perrill [sic].  (R‑1)

CHILDREN OF WILLIAM GRAVES

William Graves (3) was born about 1835 in Marion Co., SC, and died before 1880.  He married Rachael Barton before 1860.  She was born about 1832 in Marion Co., SC, and died after 1880.  This family was recorded on the 1860 census in Marion Co., SC, P.O. Gum Swamp.  Rachel was recorded on the 1880 census in Kirby, Marion Co., SC as a 38-year old widow.  Their children were born in SC.  (R‑1)

Gadi Graves (5) was born about 1838 in Marion Co., SC, and died after 1880.  He married Martha (Sweat) Griffin about 1876.  She was born about 1830 in SC.  They were recorded on the 1880 census in Hebron, Marlboro Co., SC.  (R‑1)

GENERATION 3

 

CHILDREN OF WILLIAM GRAVES (3) AND RACHEL BARTON

Levi William Graves (6) was born 27 April 1854 in Laurinburg, Scotland Co., NC, died 27 April 1938 in South Williams Twp., Tabor City, Columbus Co., NC[2], and was buried in Mt. Cavalry Cem.  He first married Sarah Kersey, daughter of ‑‑‑‑‑‑ and Mahala ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  Her brothers were Lewis (or Louis) and Michael Kersey based on the 1860 and 1870 censuses for Marion Co., SC.  Levi and Sarah were recorded on the 1880 census in Kirby, Marion Co., SC.  Levi married second Mattie Mae Lowery, daughter of George Lowery and Mary Frances Rising, on 20 Nov. 1912, in Columbus Co., NC[3].  Levi gave his age as 40 instead of his actual age of 58.  She was born 6 June 1888 in NC, and died 8 April 1958 in Columbus Co., NC.  (R‑1)

    15.   Rachel Mattie Graves, b. 6 April 1916 (Columbus Co., NC), m. Ezra Norris, d. 30 Nov. 1989 (New Hanover, Wilmington Co., NC).  He was b. 30 June 1915, d. 3 June 1984 (Whiteville, Columbus Co., NC).

    17.   Levi Graves, b. 28 April 1919.

+18.   William Talmadge Graves, b. 12 May 1921, m. Frostie Flore Nealey, d. 12 Nov. 1988.

+19.   George L. Graves, b. 26 Nov. 1926, m. Meloneise ‑‑‑‑‑‑, d. 23 Nov. 1959.

 

Charles F. Graves (8) was born 6 July 1865 in SC, died 1 March 1928 in Rockfish, Cumberland Co., NC of measles[4], and was buried in Cumberland Co., NC.  He first married Lucy Ann Seals, daughter of J. Martin Seals and Elizabeth Gibson, about 1895.  She was born in June 1864 in NC[5], and died 19 Sept. 1917 in Scotland Co., NC.  This family was recorded on the 1900 census in Stewartsville Twp., Scotland Co., NC and the 1910 census in Lumber Bridge, Robeson Co., NC.  He married second Maggie (Fields) Cash, daughter of Taylor Fields and Maggie Baggett, between 1917 and 1920.  Charlie, Maggie, and her children from her first marriage were recorded on the 1920 census in Rockfish, NC.  She was born 3 March 1883 in NC, died 29 Nov. 1975 in Fayetteville, Cumberland Co., NC[6], and was buried in Hope Mills, Cumberland Co., NC.  She and her sons were recorded on the 1930 census in Hope Mills, NC.  (R‑1)

    22.   Rachel R. Graves, b. April 1898, m. Arthur Blackman, d. 28 May 1916 (Carvers Creek, Cumberland Co., SC).  Died of measles.  Bur. Blackman Graveyard.
