DESCENDANTS OF AARON S. GRAVES AND AUGUSTA J. ------

OF KY, MO & TX

GENERATION 1

Aaron S. Graves (1) was born about 1816 in KY. He married Augusta J. ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1822 in KY. They were listed in the 1850 census for Marion Co., KY, with children Willis and Julia, both born in KY. They were in the 1860 census for Tarkio, Atchison Co., MO, with children William F., 18, and Julia F., 14. They were in the 1870 census for Jefferson Twp., Saline Co., MO, with children John and Ellen, both born in MO, presumably the only children still at home, and Richard Graves, born about 1835, probably a brother of Aaron, although it is possible he was a son. Also included in the household in 1870 is William Cole, age 19, farm laborer, born in IA, and Delsa Page, age 30, black, cook, born in MO. Aaron was a farmer. Aaron was in the 1880 census for Bosque Co., TX, with wife Sarah A., 53, GA, son John A., 18, son Willis F., 37, and daughter-in-law Mary F., 21. The reason for the large gap in the ages of the first 2 children and the last 2 is not known. It could be that Aaron was married twice, although that is not obvious from the census records (other than the possible discrepancy in the 1880 census), and it could be that the last 2 children belonged to the Richard living with them in 1870. The only Richard Graves that can be found who even comes close to matching this Richard is a son of Joseph and Matilda Graves (genealogy 62) in the 1850 and 1860 census for Washington Co., KY, but it is not at all certain that is the same person.

It has been proven that this is not the Aaron S. Graves, born 1821, son of Lewis Graves and Rebecca Starnes of Wilson Co., TN, descended from Capt. Thomas Graves of VA. That Aaron was born in TN, was a physician, and was listed in the 1850 census for Union Twp., St. Francis Co., AR, and the 1860 census for Searcy Twp., Poinsett Co., AR. (R‑1, R‑2)

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF AARON S. GRAVES (1) AND AUGUSTA J. ------

Willis Fletcher Graves (2) was born 1 April 1843 in KY, and died 4 Feb. 1917 in TX. He married Mary Frances Lomax on 31 July 1879 in TX. She was born 29 Dec. 1859 in MS, and died before 1900. They were living with his parents in the 1880 census for Bosque Co., TX. He was in the 1900 and 1910 censuses for Meridian, Bosque Co., TX, widowed, with 3 children, all born in TX. (R‑3)

7. Mattie Lois Graves, b. 26 Dec. 1884, m. Albert Paul Schmidt, c. 1912, d. before 1965. He was b. 24 March 1885 in TX, and d. 7 Dec. 1965 in Comanche Co., TX. 3 children.

8. John Warren Graves, b. 22 Oct. 1889.

Julia Franklin Graves (3) was born in 1846, and died in 1930 in Slater, Saline Co., MO. She married John William Thomson, son of Capt. Pike Montgomery Thomson and Elizabeth Eleanora Goodwin, on 15 Oct. 1869 in Slater, MO. John was descended from Capt. Thomas Graves of VA (see information from Mrs. Allison Adair Patterson). (R‑1)
