William Graves (1) was born in 1750, supposedly in England (according to an SAR application[1]), although this seems unlikely, and died 7 June 1798 in SC.  He married Hannah Ward 7 June 1770.  She was born in 1753 and died 15 Aug. 1837.  According to the SAR application, they had 4 sons and 1 daughter.  (R‑2)

GENERATION 2

 

CHILDREN OF WILLIAM GRAVES (1) AND HANNAH WARD

Rachel (or Rachael) Graves (6) was born 17 May 1790 in SC or NC, and died 5 May 1830, after the birth of her last child in 1827.  She married Joseph Washington Wyatt about 1810 or 1811 in Ross Co., OH.  He was born 9 Oct. 1789 in NC, SC or VA (probably NC), and died 3 Nov. 1881 in Poweshiek Co., IA.  They lived in Jackson Co., OH.

After Rachel died, Joseph married second Elizabeth Roberts on 5 Nov. 1830, and had 4 more children.  They were Isaac Wyatt, b.c. 1831, m. Mary Vance; Lucinda Wyatt, b.c. 1833, m. William Taylor; Sarah Wyatt, b.c. 1835, m. Henry Border; and Charles Wyatt, b.c. 1838, m. Martha Negley.  This family was in the 1850 census for Washington, Jackson Co., OH.

Vinton Co., OH was not a county until 1850.  It was formed from Jackson, Hocking and Athens counties.  Before 1820, there was no Jackson Co., it was part of Ross Co., OH.  This family probably didn't move, the county lines kept changing.

It is very likely that Rachel Graves was descended from the Quaker family of Thomas Graves of New Castle Co., DE (gen. 85).  Both Eli Graves and William Graves, who married daughters of Rachel, were grandsons of Thomas Graves (part of gen. 85) and Martha Dixon.  (R‑1, R‑2, R‑3)

Hannah Wyatt (7) was born 20 Nov. 1813 in the part of Ross Co. that later became Vinton Co., OH, and died 16 Oct. 1885 in Hamden, Jackson Co., OH.  She married Isaac Fry on 21 Aug. 1831.  He was born about 1812 in OH.  They were in the 1850 census for Washington, Jackson Co., OH.  They were in the 1860 census for Milton, Jackson Co., OH.  He was a farmer.  All their children were born in OH, probably all in Jackson Co.  (R‑3)

William Wyatt (8) was born 11 Dec. (or 29 Nov.) 1815 in the part of Ross Co. that later became Vinton Co., OH, and died 18 Jan. 1893 in Allensville, Vinton Co., OH.  He first married Elizabeth Cozad, daughter of John Cozad and Sarah Colvin, on 14 Nov. 1835 in Jackson Co., OH.  She was born 5 Oct. 1816 in Allensville, Vinton Co., OH.  They were in the 1850 census for Richland, Vinton Co., OH.

He married second Mary Jane Sperry.  She was born 12 March 1836 in OH, and died 26 Jan. 1905.  Source R‑1 stated that son Joseph, WilliamÕs second wife, and his last four children all moved to Iowa in 1854, and that the rest of the family is believed to have stayed in what is now Vinton Co., OH.  However, 1860-1880 census records all show them living in Vinton Co., OH.  An obituary of William states that he had 18 children, but not all of them have yet been found.  Joseph and Mary were in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses for Richland, Vinton Co., OH.  He was a farmer.  (R‑1, R‑5)

Elizabeth Wyatt (12) was born about 1822 (or 1827) in OH, and died between 1850 and 1854 in Jackson Co., OH.  She married John Pope on 16 Jan. 1845 in Jackson Co., OH.  He was born about 1824 in OH (or IN), and died after 1870.  They were in the 1850 census for Violet, Fairfield Co., OH, with Alfred Pope (age 52, probably his father) living with them.  According to that census, everyone in their household was born in Jackson Co., OH, except for Alfred Pope born in NC.

After Elizabeth died, John married Catherine Sutton on 17 June 1854 in Jackson Co., OH, and had 7 more children.  John and Catherine were in the 1860 census for Butler, Miami Co., IN.  They were in the 1870 census for Liberty, Howard Co., IN.  He was a farmer.

Rachel Ann Wyatt (13) was born 20 Sept. 1828 in Ross Co., OH (the part that was later Vinton Co.), and died 27 May 1914 in Pee Pee, Pike Co., OH.  She married Johann Adam Gehres, son of John Adam Gehres and Charlotte Kehl, on 4 Jan. 1849 in Pike Co., OH.  He was born 9 March 1828 in Lauterecken, Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, and died 31 Jan. 1901 in Pee Pee, Pike Co., OH.  These were the gg-grandparents of Derek Dingledine.  (R‑3)

John William Wyatt (26) was born 5 Nov. 1841 in Vinton Co., OH, and died 11 Sept. 1909 in Fayette Co., OH.  He first married Jennetta (or Jeanette) Claypool (or Janetta Claypoole), daughter of Alexander Claypool and Jane Cox, on 22 March 1866 in Vinton Co., OH.  She was born about 1847 and died 14 Nov. 1873, both in Vinton Co., OH.  She was in the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Richland, Vinton Co., OH, living with her parents.  All their parents were born in Vinton Co., OH.

He married second Elizabeth Berry, daughter of Alfred Berry and Anna Fogle, on 3 Oct. 1875.  She was born 16 March 1848 in Morgan, Morgan Co., OH, and died 29 Jan. 1928 in Fayette Co., OH.  All their children were born in OH.  (R‑4)
