DESCENDANTS OF PHILIP GRAVES AND SUSANNAH HUNSINGER OF MD & KY

GENERATION 1

Philip Graves (1) was born about 1786 in MD. He married Susannah Hunsinger, daughter of Mathias Hunsinger and Mary Gears, on 6 April 1812 in Muhlenberg Co., KY. She was born 1792-1793 in Muhlenberg Co., KY, and died 22 March 1871 in Burnt Prairie Twp., White Co., IL.

Philip Graves couldn’t be found in the 1820 census anywhere. He was in the 1830-1850 censuses for Ohio Co., KY.

This family is probably very closely related to that of John Sanders Graves and Mary Susannah Wooton of MD & KY (in gen. 247). Philip may be a nephew of John. (R‑3)

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF PHILIP GRAVES (1) AND SUSAN HUNSINGER

George H. Graves (2) was born 9 Jan. 1813 in Kentucky, and died 1863. He married Margaret Fulkerson at 3 p.m., Thursday, 27 Feb. 1834. She was born about 1814 in KY. He was a farmer. All their children were born in KY.

The 1840 census for Ohio Co., KY showed George living close to Philip Graves, his father. The 1850 census for District 2, Ohio Co., KY listed all the children, and showed them living next door to George's sister Mary. They were in the 1860 census for Twp. 3S, Range 9E, White Co., IL, with children Sarah, 21, William, 17, Ezekiel, 14, and Eliza, 11, and George’s occupation was doctor.

One source gave an additional child, Idella Graves, b. 11 (or 17) March 1869, but that does not seem possible, since George died in 1863, and Idella can’t be found in census records. It is possible this was the daughter of George’s son, Ezekiel. (R‑1, R‑2)

Robinson (spelled Robertson in some records) on 31 July 1836 in Ohio Co., KY. The bond was signed by George Graves. John was born 1 Jan. 1813 in Russell Co., VA, and died 4 Nov. 1875 in White Co., IL. The family was in the 1850 census for District 2, Ohio Co., KY. John was a farmer. All their children were born in KY. In 1850, they were living next door to her brother George. The 1860 census for Ceralvo, Ohio Co., KY, listed John and 7 children, but did not list Mary, and showed their surname as Robertson. All their children were born in KY, probably in Ohio Co., with the possible exception of George, who was given as born in VA in the 1860 census. (R‑3)

In the 1850 census, they are living only a few houses away from her brother George and her sister Mary, in District 2, Ohio Co., KY, page 66. They were in the 1860 census for Dexter, Ohio Co., KY, Ceralvo P.O., with Andrew J. Kimley, 31, farmer, Sarah J., 39, Mitton F., 11, Preuden M., 9, Jessie O., 7, William B. Graves, 34, school teacher, and Margarett Fulkerson, 25, boarder, all born in KY.
