Alfred Enos Graves (3), also called

was born 20 June 1850 (or 16 Feb. 1853) and died 20 (or 21) March 1921, both in
Coleridge, Randolph Co., NC[5]. He first married Emeline (ÒLennieÓ)
Lucas, daughter of Benjamin Lucas and Caroline Foushee, on 26 March 1876 in
Chatham Co., NC[6]. She was born about 1856 in NC, and died
after 18 June 1880. This family
was recorded on the 1880 census in Gulf, Chatham Co., NC; their children were
born in NC. He married second
Sylvinia (ÒViniaÓ or ÒVinaÓ) E. Siler, daughter of Elyce Siler, in Coleridge,
NC, on 13 Sept. 1883 in Chatham Co., NC[7]. She was born 27 March 1858 in Randolph
Co., NC, and died 4 May 1946 in Coleridge, Randolph Co., NC. Enos was a farmer and worked for John
Caveness who owned a farm in Brush Creek.
Enos was the last slave owned by the Caveness family. Both Enos and Sylvania were freed from
slavery in 1863. They both worshipped
at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church, and were buried in the church cemetery. All his children were born in Randolph
Co., NC, probably all in Coleridge.
Recorded as Enos F., he and his
second wife ÒVinaÓ were recorded on the 1900 census in Matthews Twp., Chatham
Co., NC, ED 11 sheet 20A with the following children: Sally J., born April 1881, Alexander, born Nov. 1885,
Alfred, born March 1888, Robert A., born March 1890, John D., born Sept. 1891,
Ida E., born Sept. 1893, and Annie H., born July 1896. They had been married 16 years,
and Vina had eight children, all living.
Also living with them was VinaÕs mother, Eliza J. (‑‑‑‑‑‑)
Siler, born March 1835 in NC.
Eliza had two children, with only one living (Vina).
In 1910 the family was recorded in
Coleridge Twp., Randolph Co., NC, ED 80, sheet 4A. They had been married 28 years, and only 9 of VinaÕs 11
children were living: The
