He married Susanna Tyson on 9 April 1790 in Gayton le Marsh. She was born about 1767 in Gayton le

born in Gayton le Marsh, Lincolnshire.

Thomas Graves (3) was born about
1791 in Gayton le Marsh, Lincolnshire, England[1],
and died in Sept. 1869 in Maltby Le Marsh, Lincolnshire. He married Elizabeth Ladlay on 16 May
1815 in Maltby Le Marsh, Lincolnshire.
She was born about 1795 in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, died in Aug. 1851
in Maltby Le Marsh, and was buried 26 Aug. 1851 in All Saints, Maltby Le Marsh. She may have married Joseph Seaman
about 1825 in Lincolnshire, England, but it seems more likely that they didn't
marry but just had a child as the result of an extramarital affair. Joseph Seaman was born about 1790.
Thomas and Elizabeth were in the
1841 census for Maltby Le Marsh, Lincolnshire, with children Joseph, 13, Thomas,
8, and William, 4. They were in
the 1851 census for Maltby Le Marsh, with their children Elizabeth and William,
both unmarried, and their granddaughter Ann (daughter of son George). He was an agricultural labourer in 1841
and 1851. All their children were
born in Maltby Le Marsh, Lincolnshire.

1851, and 1861 censuses for Gayton le Marsh, where all their children were
born. Her widowed mother, Rebecca
Broddle, born about 1783 in Tetford, Lincolnshire, was living with them in 1851
and 1861. James was an
agricultural labourer. In 1851,
their sons Thomas and James were living in a nearby household as agricultural

Elizabeth Graves
(15) was born about 12 May 1822 in Maltby Le Marsh, Lincolnshire, and died
April-June 1875 in Grantham, Lincolnshire. She married Richard Maltby on 20 Nov. 1848 in Louth,
Lincolnshire, England. He was born
about 1820 in Lincs. It is
somewhat puzzling, however, that Elizabeth was living with her parents in the
1851 census, listed as a domestic servant, unmarried. (R‑1)

Joseph Graves (17)
was born 28 May 1828 in Maltby Le Marsh, Lincolnshire, was baptized the same
day, and died after 1881 (since he was listed in that census). He was a son of Elizabeth Graves (nee
Ladlay) who was married to Thomas Graves.
On the baptism (Mumby near Alford) it states Ňson of Elizabeth
Graves.Ó The birth certificate for
Joseph Graves states mother Elizabeth Graves, father Thomas Seaman. It is believed that Thomas Graves was
tramping around the parishes trying to find work about the time Elizabeth
became pregnant with Joseph.
Joseph married
Margaret Hewson, daughter of Thomas Hewson and Mahala North, about 1850 in
Maltby Le Marsh. She was born
about 1830 in Alford, Lincolnshire.
On the 1861 census for Alford, Lincolnshire, they were living with
children Charles, 10, Ann, 9, Stephen, 7, William, 6, and Betsy, 1. On the 1881 census he was living in a
boarding house in Parsons Lane, Alford, Lincolnshire. All their children were born in Alford, Lincs, except for
William who was born in Hull, Yorkshire.

Reston, Lincs., and they had the following 2 children. However, according to R‑3, his
name was Thomas William Graves, and Eliza was born about 1833 in Legbourne,
Lincolnshire, and their children were Susanna, b. 1857, George, b. 1860, and
Eliza, b. 1862, all born in Maltby le Marsh. (R‑1, R‑3)

second George Tayles, son of Edward Tayles and Elizabeth Burt, on 6 Aug. 1874
in Wesleyan Chapel, Spilsby, Lincolnshire. He was born Jan.-March 1852 in Toynton All Saints,
Lincs. Their first 4 children were

Charles was in the 1871 census for Well, Lincolnshire, where he was a
servant in the household of George Cartwright, farmer, working as a groom,
unmarried. He and Mary were in the
1891 census for Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire, living at 24 Olive St., and he was
a bricklayers labourer. All their
children were born in Grimsby. (R‑2)

Stephen Graves (40)
was born in 1854 in Alford, Lincolnshire, and died in Lincolnshire. He married Ellen Hackford, daughter of
Edward Hackford, about 1878 in Grimsby Primitive Methodist Chapel, Grimsby,
Lincolnshire. She was born in 1855
in Conisholme, South Reston, Lincolnshire, and died in Lincolnshire. Stephen trained as a poulterer, market
gardener, coal merchant, and had a business (shop) in Yarbrough Street,
Grimsby. They lived in Cromwell
Road, Grimsby, where their three sons were born. Stephen was a
Methodist minister (a lay preacher), a teetotaller, preached on the evils of
drink (perhaps partly because his father had a drinking problem), and was a
very well liked man in the community.
He was one of the founding members of a Wesleyan Methodist chapel in
Grimsby. (R‑1, R‑4)

Lincolnshire. Ernest was a master
shoemaker. His boot and shoemakerŐs
shop was opposite the family home.
After he retired, his daughter Bertha took the shop over as a
