Shelvey on 1 May 1784 at Great Mongeham Church, witnessed by John and Richard
Barwick. They were both of Great
Mongeham (although she may have been from Shoulden), and both signed with their
mark x. Banns were read April 4,
11 and 18. They had to get married
since she was pregnant with Anne.
She was born in 1762, and died in 1837 at Great Mongeham, aged 75. All their children were baptized at

Kent, witnessed by Richard Somes and Sarah Kemp. The vicar was Thomas Hutchinson. Neither could read. James was living in Great Mongeham, and banns were read in Great Mongeham
on Jan. 4, 11, 18. They had to get
married as Elisabeth was about 3 months pregnant with
William from about Oct. 1, 1783.

Elizabeth ‑‑‑‑‑‑. The 1841 census showed him living in Lydden at Wicklan
Bushes, age 75, with wife Elizabeth, 65, and son Thomas, 25. Also Benjamin Holmans, 18, was living
with them, probably the son of Benjamin Holmans and Elizabeth Graves who married
in 1822. Their first 4 children
seem to have been born in Sutton, Kent, and the last 2 in Great Mongeham, Kent.
The last 2 sons, Thomas and John,

Elizabeth A. Constable on 17 Feb. 1810 in Great Mongeham,
Kent, while he was living in Great Mongeham and she
was living in River. Banns were
read Jan. 14, 21, 28. Witnesses were Stephen Newing and
John Campbell, Rector Ripple C. Philpott officiated,
and neither William nor Elizabeth could read. The 1841 census showed him as a shepherd living in West
Langdon, age 55, with wife Elizabeth, 55, and 7 children. The 1871 census listed Elizabeth, 86,
living alone in East Langdon. All

and was baptized 29 Sept. 1811, both at Great Mongeham, near Deal, Kent, and
died in 1887 in Lydden, near Dover, Kent.
He married Margaret Ann Fuller, daughter of Isaac Fuller and Ann ‑‑‑‑‑‑,
on 31 Sept. 1842 at Lydden, Kent.
She was baptized 22 Nov. 1818 in Acrise or Swingfield, Kent, and died in
April 1892 in River, Kent. Thomas
was a laborer when he married, and neither he nor Margaret could write. The 1871 census gives the date and
place of his birth, and states that he was a shepherd. All their children were born at

was buried in Great Mongeham, Kent. He married Elizabeth Ann Wood on 14
July 1833 in Great Mongeham, Kent, witnessed by
Robert Fitall and Ann Wood who later married Jan. 11,
1834. Both James and Elizabeth
were from Great Mongeham. The rector was C. Dimock, and
banns were read June 9, 16, and 23.
Elizabeth was born about 1810 in Sutton, Kent (about 6 miles north of
Dover, and about 5 miles from River), and died in Sept. 1873 in Eastry, Kent.
They were in the
1841 census for the parish of Great Mongeham, Kent,
when he was a shepherd. The 1851
census for Deal Kent shows daughter Eliza as a servant, born in Mongeham, Kent.
In the 1851 census for Sandwich, St.
Mary, Kent, son James was in the family of John Town, sexton, and his wife
Mary, listed as son, 22, agricultural laborer, born in Deal; Mary was born Mary
Graves, probably JamesÕ aunt.
James and Elizabeth were in the 1861 and 1871 censuses for Great
Mongeham, Kent. He was a
shepherd. Their first child was born in Great Mongeham, the next 4 in Sholden,

were both from Great Mongeham. Banns were read Sept. 18, 25, and Oct.
2. Rector was Edward Percy. Ann was born about 1842 in Great Mongeham, Kent.
They were in the 1871 census for Deal, Kent, with their first 3
children. They were in the 1881
census for Ripple, Kent, with all 7 of their children. They have not yet been found in the
1991 census. He was an
agricultural labourer. Their first 2 children were born in Great Mongeham, the third in Ashley or Sholden,
the next 2 in Deal, and the last 2 in Ripple, all in Kent. (R‑1)
