DESCENDANTS OF DANIEL NATHANIEL GRAVES OF NY & RICE CO., MN

GENERATION 1

Daniel (“Dan”) Nathaniel Graves (1) was born in 13 March 1851 in NY, and died 11 Jan. 1924 in Rice Co., MN. He first married ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born in MA, and died before the 1880 census. He was in the 1870 census for Faribault, Rice Co., MN, born in NY, working as a clerk in a store. He was in the 1880 census for Faribault, Rice Co., MN, as a widower, born about 1850 in IL, working as a clerk in a dry goods store, with both his parents born in NY.

He married second Ella (or Ellen) J. Bemis about 1888 or 1886. She was born in Oct. 1854 in MA. They were in the 1900 and 1920 censuses for Faribault, Rice Co., MN. He was a salesman in 1900 and a farmer in 1920. His father was born in NY and his mother in VT. Both her children were still living in 1900. All his children were born in MN.

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF DANIEL N. GRAVES (1) AND ELLA J. ------

Roy Bemis Graves (3) was born 10 (or 11) Aug. 1889 in Faribault, Rice Co., MN, and died 15 June 1973 at Lacrescent, MN. He married Laura Janet Huntington, daughter of James H. Huntington and Mary McPhail, about 1913. She was born 21 July 1893 in WI, and died 17 March 1937 in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN. Her father was born in PA and her mother in English Canada. Roy owned a business in Fairibault, MN for years before moving to LaCrescent, MN and managing an orchard there. They were in the 1920 census for Faribault, Rice Co., MN, and in the 1930 census for Faribault, Rice Co., MN. In 1930, her mother was living with them, age 50, widow, born in Canada, although her name was given as James H. Huntington. Roy was listed in the census in 1920 as manager of a music store, and in 1930 as a retail merchant of musical instruments. (R‑1)
