OF SOUTH KYME, LINCOLNSHIRE, ENGLAND

 

 

GENERATION 1

 

William Graves (1) married Mary ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  They lived in South Kyme, Lincolnshire, England, where all their children were born.  (R‑1, R‑2)

Children - Graves

  2.  George Graves, bapt. 1 May 1798 (Ewerby), m. Anne Middleton, 1851.  She was b.c. 1806.  Between 1841 and 1881 he was a farmer at South Kyme.  By the 1891 census, he had retired and moved to Boston, Lincolnshire.  The 1891 census for Boston, Lincs., lists George Graves, 92, widower, retired farmer born at Ewerby, Lincs., Martha Petchell, sister, widow, 73, housekeeper, born at South Kyme, Lincs.

  4.  Sarah Graves, b. 1803, m. Thomas Cummins, 1837 (South Kyme).

  5.  Ann Graves, b. 1807.

+6.  Susanna Graves, b. 1810, m. John Butler, 1834.

  7.  Elizabeth Graves, b. 1812.

+8.  Martha Graves, b. 1816, m. William Petchell, 14 April 1837.

 

 

GENERATION 2

 

CHILDREN OF WILLIAM GRAVES (1) AND MARY ------

Susanna Graves (6) was born and baptized in 1810 in South Kyme, Lincs.  She married John Butler in 1834 at Ewerby, Lincolnshire.  He was born about 1810 in Rowlston, Lincolnshire.  They were living at Swineshead, Lincolnshire in the early 1840’s.  John was a farm bailiff at Brand End Farm there in 1851.  Susanna was widowed in 1859, and was a charwoman at the time of the 1861 census for South Kyme, living with her three youngest children.  The first 2 children were born in Frampton, the next in Portland, and all the others in Swineshead, Lincolnshire.  (R‑2)

  14.  Mary Butler, b.c. 1847.

  15.  Martha Butler, b.c. 1849.

  16.  Charles Butler, b.c. 1852.

  17.  Susanna Butler, b.c. 1854.

 

Martha Graves (8) was born about 1816 in South Kyme, Lincs.  She married William Petchell on 14 April 1837 in South Kyme.  He was born about 1816 in Lincolnshire.  They were in the 1841 census for Billinghay, Lincs., with one son Thomas, 7 months.  They may have had at least one other child, Martha Ann Petchell, born about 1848 in Billinghay, since that child was in the household of Frederick Almond and Elizabeth Almond, 40, possibly the sister of Martha, in the 1861 census for Ruskington, Lincs.

GENERATION 3

 

CHILDREN OF SUSANNA GRAVES (6) AND JOHN BUTLER

William Butler (9) was born about 1837 in Frampton, Lincolnshire.  He married Emily ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1851 in Gosberton, Lincs.  They were in the 1871 census for Swineshead, Lincs., with no children, and he was a butcher.  They were in the 1881 census for Swineshead, when he was an innkeeper and mulch farmer with 50 acres.  All their children were born in Swineshead.

  21.  Harriet Butler, b.c. 1874.

  22.  Elizabeth Butler, b.c. 1879.

 

John Butler (10) was born about 1838.  He married Susanna Hudson in 1867 at Holland Fen Chapel.  He became a butcher and a publican at The White Hart, Crowland, Lincs.  (R‑2)

  23.  Louisa Butler, b. 1877 (Crowland, Lincs.), m. Arthur Kendrew, 1901.

 

George Butler (11) was born about 1841 in Portland, Lincolnshire.  He married Eliza ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1846 in Skirbeck, Lincs.  They were in the 1891 and 1901 censuses for Bicker, Lincs.  He was a cottager and small farmer.  Their first 2 children were born in Gibbet Hills, Swineshead, Lincs., and the third in Bicker, Lincs.

  26.  Charles Butler, b.c. 1885.

 

Stephen Butler (13) was born about 1845 in Swineshead, Lincolnshire.  He married Mary ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1846 in Newark, Nottinghamshire.  They were in the 1891 and 1901 censuses for South Kyme, Lincs.  He was a farmer.  Their first child was born in Great Gonerby, Lincs., and the others in South Kyme, Lincs.
