DESCENDANTS OF ------ GRAVES AND MARY FULLER OF GA & RUSSELL CO., AL

GENERATION 1

‑‑‑‑‑‑ Graves (1) was probably born about 1805.  He apparently died before 1850, since he was not with his family in that census.  He married Mary Fuller, daughter of Isaac Fuller and Elizabeth ‑‑‑‑‑‑.  She was born about 1808 in GA, and probably died between 1860 and 1870.

They were in the 1850 census for Russell Co., AL, page 91, dwelling 1272, with Mary, 42, as head of household, and children Lewis, 25, Richard, 18, John, 16, Samuel, 14, Thomas, 12, and Mary, 10, all born in GA.  Also in the 1850 census for Beat 3, Russell Co., AL, page 24, dwelling 346 was Isaac Fuller, 70, Elizabeth Fuller, 63, William Morris, 26, Eliza Morris, 24, all born in GA, Andrew Morris, 4, Wilson Morris, 2, and Richard Graves, 18, all born in AL.  It is likely that this was the same Richard Graves in both households, and Isaac and Elizabeth Fuller were Mary’s parents and Richard’s grandparents.

The 1860 census for Southern Div., Russell Co., AL, Columbus P.O., page 937, listed Elizabeth Fuller, 70, Mary Graves, 52, Thomas Graves, 21, and Mary Graves, 19.  Living nearby in 1860 were Mary’s sons Richard, John, Lewis and Samuel.

A puzzling observation is that in the 1860 census for Russell Co., AL, the household of son Lewis Graves and wife Sinthy included John McCray, 10, born GA.  This may be the John H. McCrary, 23, in the 1880 census for Dead Fall, Butler Co., AL, page 377B, son of widow Eliza E. Graves, apparently by her first marriage.  The 1870 census shows her, 34, in Township 11, Butler Co., AL, Greenville P.O., page 466, married to James Graves, 47.  Further searching shows that Eliza Elizabeth Barganier first married John E. McCrory 6 Oct. 1855 in Lowndes Co., AL, and then married James Graves 19 Dec. 1868 in Lowndes Co., AL.  This indicates a possibility that James Graves was related to this Graves family of Russell Co., AL.  If so, then it is possible that this Graves family is descended from William Graves and Sarah Smith whose descedants lived in Lowndes Co., AL.  William Graves was descended from Capt. Thomas Graves (genealogy 169), 1608 settler in Jamestown, VA.
