DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM P. GRAVES AND LOUISA F. GOSS OF SC, GA, AL & TX

GENERATION 1

William P. Graves (1) was born 19 March 1820 in SC, and died 5 Sept. 1884 in Texarkana, Bowie Co., TX.  He married Louisa F. Goss, daughter of Churchill Christopher Goss and Nancy Conant, on 30 April 1844 in Harris Co., GA.  She was born 12 June 1825 in GA.  Their first two children were born in Troup Co., GA, the next in AL, and the last in Jefferson, Marion Co., TX.

The 1850 census for District 701, Troup Co., GA, page 90, listed William P. Graves, 30, SC, Louisa F., 25, GA, and Josephine O., 5, GA.  Legend in one part of the family said they were from Rome, Floyd Co., GA, but Troup Co. is considerably south of Floyd Co.  They were in the 1860 census for Hopkins Co., TX.  The 1870 census for Precinct 1, Upshur Co., TX, Gilmer P.O., page 22, listed William, 50, house painter, Louisa, 45, and their 3 sons.  They were in the 1880 census for Texarkana, Bowie Co., TX.  Much of the information about this couple and their descendants is from handwritten information in a family Bible.

As a result of the Graves DNA study of the Graves Family Association, we have found that the descendants of William P. Graves are related to James W. Graves and Melissa K. Ray of SC, MS & AR (gen. 48), James Graves and Sarah ‑‑‑‑‑‑ of SC & GA (gen. 78), Richard Graves and Polly Lucy ‑‑‑‑‑‑ of SC & AR (gen. 189), and George William Graves of GA, MS & TX (gen. 258).  (R‑1, R‑2)
