DESCENDANTS OF ELIZABETH GRAVES AND PHILO HEATON OF INDIANA

GENERATION 1

Elizabeth Graves (1) was born about 1834 in Indiana, probably in Dearborn Co. She married Philo W. Heaton, son of Eben Heaton and Sarah Elmira Streeter, on 25 Nov. 1852. He was born 4 Dec. 1827 in IN, and died in 1891. Elizabeth’s father had probably died before 1850, and she was living with the Eben Heaton family in the 1850 census of Sparta Twp., Dearborn Co., IN, page 446. Nearby in 1850 was Cynthia Graves, 38, living with Richard Oliver, 79, and his wife Elizabeth, 69. Cynthia may have been Elizabeth’s mother.

Philo, 33, and Elizabeth, 26, were in the 1860 census for Washington Twp., Ripley Co., IN, page 478, with children Mary, 6, William, 4, Alice, 2, and Sarah J., 2/12, all born in IN. They were in the 1870 census for Washington Twp., Ripley Co., IN, with Philo, 42, Elizabeth, 35, Mary, 16, William, 14, Alice, 12, Perry, 9, and Fanny, 3. The 1880 census for Washington Twp., Ripley Co., IN, showed Philo, 52, Elisabeth, 46, William, 24, Alice, 22, Perry, 18, Fanny, 13, and Clarra, 10. All children were born in IN.

Elizabeth may be a brother of Henry Graves in genealogy 589, and they both may be descended from genealogy 168 (Thomas Graves of Hartford, CT). (R‑1)
