George Grieves (2) was born about 1713 in South Shields, Durham, England.  He married Jane Gibson.  (R‑1)

George Grieves (4) was born about 1776 in South Shields, Durham, England.. He married Ann Clark.  She was born about 1771.  (R‑1)

GENERATION 5

 

CHILDREN OF GEORGE GRIEVES (4) AND ANN CLARK

John Grieves (5) was born 11 Jan. 1812 in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, Durham, England, and died in 1887.  He married Ann Stewart.  She was born about 1810 in Northumberland.

They were in the 1851 census for Monk Wearmouth Thae, Durham, England, Civil Parish Sunderland, living at 4 Pottery Bank, with John’s occupation listed as white smith[1], and the family name spelled Grives.  They were in the 1861 census for Sunderland, Durham, England, Bishopwearmouth civil  parish, St. Andrew ecclesiastical parish, with John and his son John George listed as ship smith[2], and the family name spelled Greives.  According to the 1851 census, all their children were born in Sunderland, Durham, but the 1861 census gave Thomas as born in Northumberland.  (R‑1)

GENERATION 6

 

CHILDREN OF JOHN GRIEVES (5) AND ANN STEWART

Thomas Stewart Grieves (9) was born about 1851 in South Shields, Durham (although the 1861 census listed his birthplace as Northumberland).  He married Clementina Burn.  She was born about 1865 in Sunderland, Durham.  They were in the 1891 census for Bishop Wearmough, Durham, with Thomas listed as angle iron smith, and the 1901 census for Sunderland, Durham, with Thomas listed as shipyard labourer.  His marriage to Clementina may have been his second, since he is apparently in the 1881 census for Bishop Wearmouth as a blacksmith, with wife Elizabeth, 28.  All his children were born in Sunderland.  (R‑1)
