John Greaves (1) was born about 1804 in Tanfield, Co. Durham, England, and died after 1871. He married Ann ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1801 in Tanfield, Durham. They were in the 1841 census for Whitley Head, Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham. They were in the 1851, 1861, and 1871 censuses for Whitele Head, (or Whitelea Head or White-le-Head Village), Tanfield, Durham. All their children were born in Tanfield, Durham.

John Greaves (5) was born about 1838 in Tanfield, Durham. He first married ‑‑‑‑‑‑. He married second Rachel ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1833 in Clymertin, Norfolk. He was in the 1871 census for Whitele Head, Tanfield, Durham, as a widower. He was a coal miner. He and Rachel were in the 1881 census for Collierley, Durham. Both his children were born in Tanfield, Durham.

William Greaves (6) was born about Jan. 1841 in Whitelea Head, Tanfield, Durham. He first married ‑‑‑‑‑‑ Marshall, daughter of James Marshall and Leah ‑‑‑‑‑‑, about 1866. She had died by the 1871 census. William married second Mary A. ‑‑‑‑‑‑ about 1874. She was born about 1851 in Tanfield, Durham.

William was a coal miner. He was in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses, unmarried, in the household of his parents. He was a widower, living with his parents, in the 1871 census for Tanfield, Durham. In the 1871 census for Collierley, Dipton, Durham, William’s son James Marshall Greaves was in the household of James and Leah Marshall, grandparents of James. William was in the 1881 and 1891 censuses for Whiteley Head (or White-le-Head or Whitlehead), Tanfield, Durham. All his children were born in Tanfield, Durham.
