GENERATION 1

Stephen Graves (1) was born about 1780 in NC, and died about 1858 in Holmes Co., MS. It has been speculated that his father may have been Archibald Graves. He married Rachael Graves, possible daughter of Hardy Graves (genealogy 73). She was born about 1804 in SC. (Either this date of birth is wrong, or not all the children listed below were hers.) They have not been found in the 1850 census. Rachael, with children Arminda, Archibald, Rachael, Martha and Goodman, was in the 1860 census for Dark Corner Beat, Holmes Co., MS. Stephen was in the 1830 and 1840 censuses for Pike Co., AL. All their children were born in AL. (R‑1)

He was born 29 Nov. 1797 in Bladen Co., NC, and died 27 Oct. 1893 in Pike Co., AL. She was living in the household of her grandson, Richard Wilson in the 1900 census for Pike Co., AL. Trussa (or Trussey) Graves (8) was probably born 1830-1835 in GA or Pike Co., AL (since the 1830-1840 censuses showed a son was born then, but it is possible that he was the son born 1820-1825). He died in 1850 in Pike Co., AL. He married Martha Black, daughter of William Henry Black and Nica Minshew, in 12 June 1846 in Troy, Pike Co., AL. She was born 29 (or 27) Oct. 1829 in AL (or GA), died 15 Nov. 1912 in Baldwin Co., AL, and was buried in Escambia Co., AL. She was in the 1850 census for Pike Co., AL, in the household of her parents. Also in the household were her two children, Jane and Stephen, both born in AL. It is not known what happened to Trussa nor why he wasn’t with his wife and children in 1850. Martha married second Bryant L. Presley, possibly in Conecuh Co., AL. He was born in Jan. 1837 in AL.
