DESCENDANTS OF JEREMIAH ALEXANDER GRAVES OF AL & MS

GENERATION 1

Jeremiah Alexander Graves (1) died in 1834 in Copiah Co., MS. He married ‑‑‑‑‑‑. It is not proven that he was the father of this Jeremiah Alexander Graves.

A sale of property by James W. Graves (of genealogy 48) and wife Melissa to Hubbard Smith was recorded on Sept. 27, 1836 in Copiah Co., Miss., both parties being residents of Copiah Co. This may have been property left to James by his father Jeremiah Alexander Graves when he died in Copiah Co. in 1834. There was a guardianship bond, dated 4 Oct. 1834 in Copiah Co., for James W. Graves to serve as guardian of Jeremiah Alexander Graves, minor heir of Jeremiah Alexander Graves. This would seem to indicate that Jeremiah Sr. had died by then, and also that James was closely related, possibly a son of Jeremiah Sr. This Jeremiah Jr. may have been the one who was born about 1813.

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF JEREMIAH A. GRAVES (1)

Jeremiah Alexander Graves (3) was born about 1813 in AL. According to the 1880 census, his father and mother were both born in SC. He married Ann E. ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1829 in MS. They were in the 1870 and 1880 censuses for Lincoln Co., MS. They have not yet been found in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. He was a farmer. Both their children were born in MS.

CHILDREN OF JEREMIAH A. GRAVES (3) AND ANN E. ------

Alexander ("Alex") Graves (4) was born about 1852 in MS. He married Lenora Miller, daughter of Shipman Miller (b. TN), from Lincoln Co., MS. She was born about 1860 in MS. (R‑17)

GENERATION 4

CHILDREN OF ALEXANDER GRAVES (4) AND LENORA MILLER

Tobias Alexander Graves (6) was born 25 Sept. 1877 in Lincoln Co., MS, died 15 Dec. 1943 in Jefferson Co., MS, and was buried in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. He first married Viola Bond, daughter of Abner Bond and Laura Holcomb. Laura was descended from Arthur Gardner Holcomb (b. 1786, NC, d. 1860) and Polly Washburn. Tobias secondly married Lily Spencer from Jefferson Co., MS. (R‑17)
