New developments with Autosomal DNA testing are moving very quickly. This is a technique to test the mixed DNA that we all inherit from both our mother and father, and from all our ancestors. It has the potential for a major impact on finding and proving ancestors and other relatives.
If you have not already been DNA tested, you can sign up by going to the DNA tab at the top of this page and clicking on the link for "Order DNA Tests." If you are already a customer of Family Tree DNA, just go to your personal page on their site and order the Family Finder test. We suggest that everyone (both males and females) take this new test (Family Finder at Family Tree DNA and Relative Finder at 23andMe). If you have already taken an autosomal DNA test at 23andMe, Ancestry.com, or elsewhere, let us know, and we will figure out how to include your results in our study. For all participants, we will need to know your line of descent from your earliest known Graves/Greaves ancestor so that your results can be included on the appropriate chart.
Look for more on this website and in the Graves Family Bulletin in the future.
The following table contains all of the autosomal DNA test results that we presently have. Most of the charts are very preliminary, showing some of the descendants of each genealogy who have been tested, but not necessarily showing all of the shared DNA segments. More test participants and more test results will be added as information is received and time allows. Please let us know of information that should be added. One of the indicators of a possible DNA match through a Graves/Greaves ancestor is when many descendants from different branches share the same segment of the same chromosome. We will be showing that on the charts as they become more complete.
The segments of matching DNA that have probably been inherited from Graves/Greaves ancestors have now been added to the following table, with the ancestors they were inherited from indicated. More details may be available on each chart. If you are a Graves/Greaves descendant and have not taken an autosomal DNA test, it would be helpful for you to do so. If you have taken an autosomal test and are not in the Graves DNA project, it would be helpful to join. It would also be helpful for all Graves/Greaves descendant to upload your test results and GEDcoms to GEDmatch (and let us know the ID numbers) so that your results can be more easily compared to results of others.
