ORDER OF FIRST FAMILIES OF VIRGINIA

Marietta Stallard, a descendant of Capt. Thomas Graves of VA, would like to be considered for membership in FFV but needs 2 members to recommend her. If you are a member or know of a member who might be willing to help, let me know and I will either pass her address to you or your name and address to her.

GRAVES FAMILY NEWSLETTER OCTOBER ISSUE:

The October issue of the Graves Family Newsletter was mailed Wednesday, Nov. 12. The December issue is expected to be mailed in December.

FREE E-MAIL AND PERMANENT E-MAIL ADDRESSES

If any of you or your friends would like to have free e-mail without having to pay an Internet Service Provider, there are several options. Your local library may be able to provide a free account. If you have a computer and a modem, you can get free e-mail from Juno (http://www.juno.com) and elsewhere.

If paying for e-mail isn’t a problem but frequent changes of your address are, you can also get a permanent e-mail address at Bigfoot (http://www.bigfoot.com) and elsewhere. I strongly urge all of you to get a permanent address so that others who want to contact you don’t lose track of your address. A permanent address is really a forwarding address. You just let the forwarding service know as you change e-mail addresses, give out only your permanent address, and no one will ever know how often you change e-mail providers.

The best place I have found for a list of these services is at http://members.tripod.com/~promotion/freemail.html.

GRAVES AND OTHER ONLINE MAILING LISTS:

It was mentioned in the last bulletin that there is a Graves mailing list. There are also many other online mailing lists for other surnames. To see a complete list of all the surname lists available, visit http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/surnames. For general information about all the things at Rootsweb, go to http://www.rootsweb.com.

===============================================

GRAVES ONLINE BULLETIN BOARD AND ROOTS SURNAME LIST:

In addition to the mailing lists that were mentioned in the last 2 bulletins, there are other things that I call Internet bulletin boards that allow posting of queries. If you go to http://www.genforum.com, you will find a surname bulletin board. This site also includes chat rooms. The Graves forum is at http://www.genforum.com/graves/ and Graf is at http://www.genforum.com/graf/.

There is also something called the Roots Surname List (RSL) at http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/searches/#rs.
