GRAVES FAMILY NEWSLETTER SCHEDULE & CONTENTS

We are still working at getting caught up with the Graves Family Newsletter. Since it is published 6 times per year (compared to 4 times per year from most family newsletters), it takes a lot of time to prepare and mail. The June issue is being mailed tomorrow, Aug. 24, and the August issue will be going to the printer before the end of August.

Some of the interesting sections in recent and future newsletter issues include:

GRAVES FAMILY BOOKS

A list of all books that have been published and a discussion of what will be published in the future is on the GFA website.

Books will be published in the future on ALL the various Graves. Greaves, Grave, etc., families. The planned order of publication is:

PUBLISHING INFORMATION ABOUT LIVING FAMILY MEMBERS

I have received several questions recently about publishing information about living family members. The questions generally involve whether it is legal and whether it is wise to publish such information.

The answers are different depending on whether we are talking about books or electronic media (websites, CD-ROM's, etc.). As far as I have found, it is always legal to publish information about living people. However, it is generally agreed that it is usually wise not to publish this information on websites or CD-ROM's. This is mainly because of the concern that it is easy for anyone to search the web for information and occasionally use it improperly. On the GFA website, we have tried to avoid including anything about living people in genealogies.

There is a major difference with printed books, however. It is standard practice with printed genealogies to include full information about all living family members. These books have such a limited distribution that there is little chance of information being misused. Since 1980 I have published 6 genealogy books and am not aware of a single incident where information in a book has caused a problem. (Of course, if someone asks you not to publish information about them, it is just good manners to comply with their wishes.)

GRAVES FAMILY ASSOCIATION WEB SITE

The section of Graves/Greaves ancestors and genealogies is constantly being added to. The plan is to have genealogies or some information about every ancestor on the list. If a genealogy of interest to you is listed but the genealogy itself has not yet been added, let me know and I can add it.

Other parts of the site that have been and are being updated are:

Take a look at the site, and let us have your comments and suggestions.

On the GFA website is a list of many of the areas where help is needed. If you are especially interested in some subject or activity, please volunteer. The GFA staff is you, and helping each other is what we do. Some areas of need are:
